Here's a video for all you shotgun-lickers who didn't care to learn the superior Alt-Shotgun. I've seen some weapon tierlists and a lot of people rank this weapon pretty low. It is more intellectually honest to admit that 12-15.5 DPS is a force to behold. I use this very frequently in the Cybergrind and in the main levels.
I show how you can one-to-two-shot many of the tankiest enemies in the game with ease.
Shotguns never seem to hit the mark against mid-range health enemies with health between 10-30. That's what this video is about.
So here's a mathy explanation of why this weapon is fantastic.

ever since i tried it in cybergrind I was like "this shit is so broken", p.s if you shift + space into an enemy with a double pump it practically one shots most of the heavier enemies (Maurice, cerberus) , and a normal double pump can onetap mannequins, so useful for layer 7

You only have to one pump it. The only difference between a one-pump and a two-pump is the range with which the 3.5 damage explosion is dealt. Also, what do you mean shift + space? What's that interaction like?

@@AtomixTiger My trick was that I slowly tapered my FOV up a little each time I got comfortable. Made me feel faster and see more. Felt like a feral animal the way my instincts were for a while.

Yeah, the math on the green jack is very hidden. But one charge adds 3.5 damage. That’s how much damage a shotgun projectile boost or a rocket does alone. This jack allows you to use melee because the first charge is an explosion that doesn’t hurt you, and the third charge can be timed so it doesn’t hurt you as well.

Yeah and after seeing this some people will still say that this is a bad weapon, lmao. I use 2 jackhammers, because if i need pboost, i would chain it with the rockets. Also I love Firestarter and genially don't understand why people hate it. Fast AOE + fast way to increase damage towards other enemies. It just melts them.

altrough i'd say that green shotgun is also very good, because it doesn't have any cooldown between 10 dps exlosion. Still, i prefer green jackhammer

@@MandarkVonShadd I've recently been convinced that the sawed-on shotgun may be the best one out there. There's a sawed-on guide that just got released and it's crazy cool. Look it up if you can. But yeah. I totally respect double jackhammers. I've tried using it, but though I understand it's merits with rocket swapping, I still can't let go of triple jackhammer.

It's really weird. The first pump adds an explosion that deals 3.5. The second pump doesn't add more damage to the explosion, only more range. The third pump increases the damage to 7, increases its range and it becomes a red explosion.

im a triple impact hammer enjoyer and i live for these donks and core snipes tho personally i would like to maintain my hammers’ freshness (unless im dum and consistent heavy hitters dont reduce the multiplier that much)

You're right that it's not the best style weapon, but I'd argue that's not it's purpose. In my eyes, it's designed to kill enemies with just enough power to beat their health bar so that you can kill the most of that enemy most efficiently.

@@broccolite8297 it is good for setting up opportunities for getting style as its massive knockback allows airtime for you to do usually-hard-to-do techs like slabcoining or core sniping into coins or even chargebacks and ofc its massive damage output is good for dispatching tanky enemies quickly (higher when combined with sawed-on)

punch right before hitting the enemy, whiplash has a maximum velocity (yellow area) and if you release first, you can hit red and oneshot virtues with no pump

Yeah, I know how to whiplash cancel. The point of this video is to show how you can solo each of these enemies without initiating the 7 second cooldown of hitting a red jack (with an exception to the Mindflayer, Ferryman and Swordsmachine).

@@CreeperMind89 Oh! Totally. Yeah, the cooldown only activates on a Jackhammer (and by cooldown I mean when it begins exhausting steam) when you hit the red meter on an enemy.

@@omaki82036 Whiplash canceling would hit red. That’s not the purpose of this video. The purpose is to demonstrate how much damage a single weapon can deal repeatedly to kill specific enemies in the most efficient way possible. If I would whiplash cancel, it would put the weapon on cooldown. Defeating the entire purpose of the video.

i like to use the pump Impact Hammer (its sounds cooler than Jackhammer), by overpumping it, jump, whiplash x2 (to quickly gain massive speed and minimize hard damage by canceling), and by that, i usually get about 17 dmg without a parry, though to be honest, i need to use the knuckleblaster more for that extra 3.5 dmg to gain a grand total of 20.5 dmg into a single hit maybe more or less depending on enemy, though very often i can 2 shot both Gutterman (if i parry with hammer) and tanks in general, i should note, that i often do full impacts and switch the the revolvers when im in the air to throw coins and oneshot another enemy with a piercer, but i also do the funny technique with hammer swaps, overall, i much rather the Hammer than a shotgun, especially for the very tanky enemies, not to mention that overpump Hammer only deals 35 dmg compared to the shotgun killing half your health for a sentry to one shot you ( or something else)

You brought up a lot of good points. My only issue with overpumping and hitting a red gauge is that it exhausts what is otherwise a great secondary. Using one pump to add 3.5 damage to each of your yellow gauge hits is really valuable at crossing damage thresholds. Realistically, 17 damage doesn't kill any one enemy on its own (better than the 12 damage in the combo I demonstrated on the Guttertank, for instance). It's mostly overkill, unless you're trying to deal that much damage to an enemy that could survive it like a Mindflayer, Ferryman or Swordsmachine. Regardless, it's damage cap, like you said, is super nice to have on-hand.

@@broccolite8297 I completely agree, I almost exclusively use it on those said enemies within the cybergrind, but I also just main the Hammer just because it's 1- fun, 2- I can combo coins with the core eject hammer, and 3- full impact and overpump for small enemies when I'm landing on them and it's especially good when they are all in one tight area, particularly the swordsmachines, filth and whatever other enemies that like to follow your position, and maybe it's just a preference on my part, but it's good to see another Hammer Enthusiast

I came up with technique with most Damage per second. You take the red shotgun, shoot chainsaw and in the moment of parrying the chainsaw you also projectile boost with green shotgun, cuz the green one reloads faster. Could you show it in the future video?

Oh I know this technique. It's technically the fastest damage technique in the game, right? It also involves cycling to the rocket in between shotgun parries while the chainsaw is being sent. I'll see if I can feature it.

This weapon is all about how much damage you can deal repeatedly, not at a maximum. Without hitting red, you can deal 9.5 damage with one pump. That's almost equal to the 10 you could've dealt. But there are no enemies that die to 13.5 or 16 damage on a red jack that you could've otherwise killed with a yellow jack. In fact, I whiplash cancel on multiple occasions to close out a combo.

Sell me on the shotgun. I'll sell you on the Jackhammer. Shotguns serve a pretty shallow role in general. In the Cybergrind, you forfeit one of your most important tools for multiple seconds just to meet the raw damage that a Jackhammer can pull off without the same maintenance: Your Feedbacker. Parries are the essence of survival in the cybergrind, and forgoing it for a lousy 3.5 damage explosion simply won't catch up. Especially when you consider radiant enemies. At least the rocket launcher has the advantage of having an extremely quick swap time, making it another low-maintenance tool for dishing out damage. It takes nearly a quarter of a second to fire off a rocket launcher after having swapped off another gun. Cost-benefit analysis would suggest this: faster swap, same damage, no need for the feedbacker = overall better substitute for explosions. There's a reason why people only use two shotguns instead of three for optimal damage. Because rockets can be spaced between two projectile boosts for better, more consistent damage at range. It's also endlessly more effective to just whiplash a light enemy into the air and rocket them for a 7 damage red explosion. Still though, you lose out on healing, movement and a timely feedbacker parry. Now for my defense of the Jackhammer. As evidence by the video, you are dealing a raw 12.2 damage per second with this combo, assuming you don't initiate with a three-pump. You're still getting great crowd control, as the white explosion deals damage to enemies and not yourself (it also goes through Maurice's explosion immunity). The only flaw with this combo is hard damage. But even still, that's easily negated with the style mechanic, because once you get to Ultrakill, all it takes is good dodges and good parries to keep that hard damage down. Jackhammers maintain the essence of the game itself. Fast, controlled movement and quick melee encounters. Enemies like Sentries and Virtues are hard to counter all at once. The Jackhammer supplements this by meeting the exact health margin with the exact damage output in the fastest, most efficient way possible. Worst case scenario, you deal max damage of 10 and the Jackhammer goes on cooldown. Cool. You have two more Jackhammers for that exact scenario. And even still, if you're swapping weapons regularly, earning conduction with your nails and sawblades, stacking damage with coins, hitting core nukes, flaming up the arena, and riding rockets all the while, you're sure to leave so much breathing room for your feedbacker to pick up whatever slack you've mistakenly left behind. I've been hyping up the feedbacker for a good reason. Because it adds 4 damage to whatever projectile you parried in the first place. 4 damage is already greater than the lousy 3.5 you get from shotguns, on top of the health and stamina refill, AND the damage prevention from the parry.

@@broccolite8297 first shotgun gives you so much combos like the most DPS combo or even the shotgun swap with boost in the game Second you still can oneshot Maurices or angels with knuckle blaster and red shotgun Also shotguns make you more aggressive so you focus only on earning kills and style (you can still use slamstorage, rocket ride). You can use for heal anything you won't like the sawblade traps, green railcanon and this gives you fast heal and you can use the +conductor bonus and with saws or green railcanon you can clear all or half wave and if you thinks hmm I will use then 2 shotguns and 1 jackhammer YOU CAN DO IT it your play style, it your choice how to play.

@@Marok_calculator The sawed-on chainsaw can only kill one Maurice per it's cooldown. Shotgun swapping is mediocre compared to the damage you can do with slab revolvers, as it requires you to be at a certain range while using projectiles instead of hitscans. Also, Jackhammers make you more aggressive too so it's not different in that regard. The green railcannon is a pretty bad crutch for healing, especially since you get a full heal upon killing an enemy next to you. I love conduction as well. It's a great cooldown to splurge on before allowing it to recharge. But that's the issue. You need to let it recharge for some time, meaning you must do other things like Jackhammer mid-range threats. I'm currently placed 525 on the Cybergrind Brutal Leaderboard, and in my experience, shotguns have felt redundant. All except the pump charge shotgun.

@@averageyoutubewatcher697 Totally okay! You get this in the level 7-2. You need to complete each of the yellow hookpoint parkour sections fast enough to reach the grates at the end. Inside those grates are each 1 of 3 buttons. After pressing all three, you need to return to the Double Gutterman encounter on the tram tracts. On the roof of that building should be a hole that leads to the room where you get the Alt-Shotgun.
