My older Howa rifles and Weatherby Vanguards don't need any company now that I have reloaded the fireformed brass. They'll poke out a single jagged hole everytime at 100 yards instead of being a one inch group. I have been reloading for over 30 years now and have found that when I let those #2 contour barrels cool off for 15 minutes and retract from the heat, is when top notch accuracy happens. This is the hardest part of accuracy testing, but it sure gives me all the confidence in the world when I am hunting. Never had to chase nothing when hunting. Ever. Semper Fi.

Disappointed that the mini action version does not have bottom metal like the short action rifle you reviewed. Also disappointed that it doesn’t come in stainless steel. As an alpine hunter these features are important to me. Howa came close but missed the mark in my opinion.

I never hardly use mini so its not a big deal with short action right around 6lbs. Would be nice to see it in stainless
@joshfillible9113 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the review. You went into detail and covered all the important stuff. Not to many reviews out there on the Carbon Stalker. What excited me about the mini action is the 4 pound 10 ounce weight for around $1000. There is only one other factory rifle (that I know of) close to that weight and it cost twice as much. Really the only way to get that light is with a custom rifle and then you are looking at a minimum of $3000. For alpine deer hunting in S.E Alaska the 6.5 Grendel at 4 pounds 10 ounces would be great to carry up the mountains but for me it would need bottom metal and to be in stainless. I spend months in the field and it almost always rains. Thanks again. I love your videos.

@@Bullets4BucksFor a few weeks I been looking @ different lite guns including the Tikka t3x SL and the Howa Carbon in 7 Rem Mag, but today I m my way to the hospital just realize I should not buy any rifle right now because of the high prices, and mostly I already own a BAR 7 Rem Mag that does not kick at all and I could use it as a (get off the truck gun), I already have a backpack gun in 308 that is very lite and accurate. So I will keep the BAR.

Nice but could do with out the plastic follower and the tightly floated barrel. If sanding a Carbon barrel does not ruin a carbon stock and the plastic follower can be replaced with a metal one, this could be the sound solid light rifle I am looking for.

I don't know exactly, but I know that my Alpine Mountain was a bit short for me! This looks very similar. I am 6ft 1in and slim build. I added a neoprene recoil pad with a custom filler to add around and inch and a half to mine, which along with the small stock cheek rest/bag I use, is now perfect! It adds virtually nothing to the weight but hugely helps with comfort and accuracy. After all, with a very light rifle, that first shot is always THE shot.

Howa like to put pressure against the barrel at the tip of the stock. My 1984 howa did this. It shot lights out.

@@Bullets4Bucks maybe it’s just an issue with the stock. I believe they only do free float now but. There is some interesting debate on stock to barrel pressure. I have seen tests with 22 rimfire then a tube strap placed over top and strapped down against the stock and it shoot better. I think it depends on the barrel rigidity. But that stock in that rifle shouldn’t be touching and a guy on my forum said he saw to much flex in the stock when he tested the rifle back in January with 6.5 PRC.

Still very happy with my Howa Alpine Mountain in .308 Win. It is a great rifle, very light, very short and packable and shoots extremely well. The bolt on mine is also like silk. It took about 50 rounds and a tiny bit of light polishing to slick it completely, but it is now incredibly smooth. This rifle looks fun too...but personally, not so keen on the look of the carbon stock. That is not to say that it is not a great rifle, I am sure it is. Howa make very good rifles and usually at a good price. Hope it shoots well.

@@Bullets4Bucks I was incredibly lucky to get mine here in the UK through a very good friend. He was a Firearms Dealer at the time and he knew I really wanted to get hold of one. They were not so easy to find in the UK at the time and somehow, through all sorts of 'horse trading' he turned up at my home one day and presented it to me as a gift!! I can never thank him enough for that. Because of that, it is a very special rifle to me. I stuck a lovely Leupold scope on it and it is the perfect combo. Took it to Bisley Ranges with him one day and it key-holed ten rounds at 300yards, which for a factory, mass produced stalking rifle with a light, thin barrel is pretty amazing! I have also treated it to a nice DIY camo paint scheme since then and it looks lovely! A great all round woodland or hill stalking rifle. It seems a shame that Howa stopped making them. Perhaps they just didn't sell as many as they do other models?
@mikemellon80 Жыл бұрын
the fact that howa stopped making the Alpine Mt Rifle is crazy to me. I owned 2 of them and still have 1 that is more go to hunting rifle. i will say, the quality control was not good. my bottom metal didnt fit the stock correctly but, howa had good customer support and sent me a new stock free of charge. both rifles had different recoil pads too. kinda seems like howa/legacy sports just grabs parts out of a bin and puts them together. BUT, the rifle is sub MOA and very light and handy to shoot. I love it.

Very disappointed in the real weight of this rifle. I bought one in 308 and its real weight is 6 lb 4 oz. I was told at Legacy Sports that it would weight only a couple of more ounces than the Mini Action, they told me 4lb 12 oz. I bought the rifle based on this false information. This is not the fault of the rifle or the manufacture company, only of Legacy Sports who not only provided me with false information, but also did nothing to offer a solution.
