I remember him from the 70's when he was a kid flying that at Cape Kiwanda on the OR coast. His dad, who built those flew there also. They were good performing gliders for that era. One day I was there with my "standard" Rogallo learning to fly. It was windy and his dad was the only one who could soar the dune. Then he finished showing off by flying to the bottom and doing whipstalls about 10' off the beach impressing everyone. I'm 78 and still go to the cape every few years with my 40-year-old UP Condor and soar the dune for an hour, make sure I can still do it.

That was me. Mt. Nebo is now one of the closest flying sites to where I live. I went down there to show off my relic. Its a lot of fun to fly this for the pilots that can remember that era and enjoy the individual design work of these gliders.

The main reason I used two motors is the length of the keel. Using one motor as part of your shift weight is the best because it takes less effort to react and control a lighter glider. I have to work a little harder to initiate or overcome a turn, than when flying free flight. It does fly very well for a 37 year old hang glider.

Yes it can be mounted on a different glider. Balance is critical on how it is placed between different gliders.

They are 16 horsepower and at full throttle run about 6000 RPM. It takes about 45 min. to add the power unit onto the glider.

I was well excepted by the people and EAA at Oshkosh. I have the most problems with the Hang Gliding association. It has become a club of those that have the newest and best. I would love to be able to go to some of the flying sites and just enjoy flying what I like, without hearing the bull from the members.

Are the motors Desert Aircraft or 3W by chance? Hey you got to commend R/C pilots for such innovations also including the use of brushless motors and small turbines for full scale use.

They weigh 9 lbs. each. If they were belt driven gear reduced I think you could achieve allot more thrust. I am running a 32 in. prop at 6000 rpm. at that speed I believe the tips are exceeding the sound barrier. With two motors they are plenty to fly and climb out.

Are there any trike instructors in Arkansas? I'm in central MS and own a Northwing ATF and a couple of Pacific Airwave hang gliders..... never flown or fully trained for either.... 4 days at Lookout Mtn.,Ga. HG training on 65 ft. hill.... seeking H2 foot launch rating by the end of Summer '19

I designed, built and test flew one like it, twin engine, in the late 1960's . A similar craft of my design, single engine, can be seen in a very early youtube vid at ( search "sevtecsev" on youtube). It used two West Bend (Chrysler) go-kart engines and in spite of my training in Cessna 150's so I could get a pilot's license to test fly it, and it's controls being backwards, no difficulties were encountered. I had previously flown what was probably the first "Rogallo" hang glider ( it is recorded on something we called "film" that has been converted to VHS video then to DVD and then onto youtube. History repeats itself.

@@sevtecsev I regret that your website now only shows the ground craft... I applaud your ingenuity and for fathering the modern trike ul. Thank you, Mr. Palmer!

Hey Kieth. A few years ago, I saw a hang glider that sported that Wasp Desging and had twin engines in similar fashon at Mt. Nebo LZ in Dardanelle, Arkansas. Was that you?

SO NICE TO SEE A REAL FLYING MACHINE! You know people look at that and think, hey I could do that... especially kids. Think of all the pilots that started out dreaming about or owning ultralights. Sad that they are mainly shunned by the EAA now. All the thousands and thousands of people coming into flying with powered parachutes... and the other gateways. Let me ask you, did they charge you to be there with your wonderful flying machine?

Reminds me of Thomas Edison, he did the same things . . . with lamps.... 10.000 times until it worked. They must have thought he was a fool, later he was a hero.
