Very nice. Great job. I think, if the batteries were placed below the upper pipe would give you more room for your harness. It loos like you do not have upward movement for your legs since the batteries are on the way. Just my opinion. I am building a similar system... Thank you for the video. Made me inspired.

@@onedoodadyoung well i truly miss the light wing loading of hang gliding. My soaring trike isnt quite as good. But the plusses are i dont need a driver, i have more options on where i can launch, i can go around as much as i want on a lz. My range is exstended and more comfortable. So alot of safety is built into that. But the advantage of flying a lighter wing loading and taking off prone is really atractive on your video and design. Truth is what all of us glide heads really want are real bird wings on are back. Fly safe my friend

*Have you thought of mounting the motor in the front part of the front structure where the strong tubes are located so that the propeller pulls in this way you avoid all the mounting in the rear part with two wheels in the triangle you could take off from the ground in the same way. greetings.*

Nice job! Is this something you designed? I'm working on a project to install an electric motor on my glider and would be interested in the component details: batteries, controller, motor, prop manufacturer and diameter.
@onedoodadyoung
@onedoodadyoung Жыл бұрын
Hello Rick, The design comes from Europe I think I first saw this setup In the late 70s. and it was called a Minimum system. I just made my own version of it for electric. It is made up of very large RC equipment. the motor is an out runner with 95 KV on 16s or 67 volts fully charged it is rated at 8000 watts output. I am running 110 to 120 amps at 67 volts or 8040 watts. I have a 2.5 to 1 cog belt reduction drive giving my prop 2546 rpm. but it tacks at around 2200 with a 51x26 prop. So far it has worked the best giving a climb rate of around 200'/m. I am making a 52x30 to see if I can improve speed a little. I am climbing best around 20 to 21 mph. The batteries are 4s cells 14.2v at 8000ma, x 4 series =67v x 3 parallels gives me 24AH. I used 6600ma in 10 min at full power and climbed to 1200 in lift and sink. My set up is working and it is not the top of the line my any means, but the paraglider folks are making good power systems and there are lots of things coming along in Eruope. My ESC is 300amp 16s Alian brand but not good service. The Motor is called Watts Big and is out of business. The speed controller is a RC servo tester. If you google Radar Bernstein his ehelp videos shows epower setups and how it all works. If I can help you in any way that I can I will be clad to. If you want to call me Message me and I will give you my #. I carve my own folding props and it comes in handy trying to get the most out on the motor. I hope this helps. Danny

Hi! Very nice flying. Have you rebuild the original schwarze-minimum system, or you build the unit from scratch? I'm asking because I try to find used original minimum, and now its very problematic :/
@onedoodadyoung
@onedoodadyoung Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I had seen that original minimum years ago and liked it. I saw the Flyped and went from there and built this from scratch. This video was the 3rd flight. I have since lengthened the tubes 5" going to the harness to correct the thrust angle to be more parallel with air flow and lowered my hang point. Testing props now. I am very pleased with the unit.
@ericoschmitt
@ericoschmitt Жыл бұрын
I like this idea of attaching the engine to the glider too. But isn't the angle point a bit too downwards? Your hangloop looks quite short, I think that would be the easy fix

Everyone should call the non emergency (annoyance line) or the airport whenever they hear and see one one of these noisy polluters flying around making a racket. Hopefully the FAA will start requiring these guys to follow the same regulations as other motorized aircraft. It's only a matter of time before these guys screw everything up for us air powered pilots.

The positive angle of attack 19 to 23 degrees seems a bit much, how close are you to stall speed? Cruise speed?

Bill, thanks for your interest and observations. This flight was one of the first flights and the angle was too high. I lengthen the tubes to the harness and used a streamer to check the angle of thrust. I am happy with the setup although more power and speed would be nice,

this is absolutely brilliant, i was wondering if this rig existed, it seem like a hustle to go up a mountain to catch wind or being dragged by a truck, not to mention i rather be in a motorized vehicle than one that is hundred percent at the mercy of mother nature, mother nature can be a b0tch some times. do you have videos on how to build one or you sell them?

Yes it is a 8000w 95KV outrunner with 2.5 redrive running on 16s 24AH lipos. I have no way of measuring the thrust but it is enough to climb to thermal altitude 1200 to 1600 with a run time of 10 minutes at 22 mph.
