No matter what the circumstances, the van always seems to offer a very cozy refuge.

Your stop over in Santa Maria reminded me of the first trip we took in our van. We drove to Washuogal Washington to repair our heating system at the manufacturer's location. The drive was about 4 hours. It rained the whole time we were on the trip, getting worse the closer we got to Washuogal. By the time the repairs were made it was getting dark. We decided that we did not want to drive back over Mount Hood at night in the rain. So I consulted an app that said we could park overnight at the local Buymart. When my wife called to confirm, the manger of the Buymart said they no longer allowed overnight parking. After Debby explained our situation, the manager made an exception for us. We would have never thought of staying there had it not been for watching your videos. Debby's family lived in the L.A. area. When we would drive from El Dorado Hills, we would often stay at the Santa Maria Inn. In those days the farms surrounding Santa Maria grew flowers, a beautiful sight.

that’s a very nice story and I’m glad that my videos helped you. Santa Maria is still very pretty and pastoral. The overnight at the Amtrak station was just fine. It was convenient to just hop on the freeway and hit the road. So another suggestion for folks: look for overnight Amtrak stations if you’re in a pinch.

That was a long drive! Perfect spot! CrackerBarrel is another place that has dedicated rv parking. Hope your nite was uneventful! Safe travels!

❤Really learn a lot about the technical aspects of the van and learn how to prepare the trip, how to plan and cook the food in the van, figure out where to park for the night etc.. Thank you for showing us how to use the van, and how it is like to be in a Panoramic, especially when it is pouring rain outside but warm and cozy staying inside, with some hot delicious meal! I guess it would add 10X more fun if Julio was along with the trip, but solo can still be enjoyable. I’ve shared this channel and recommended Panoramic to my friends who loves RV life or owned an RV. You proofed that RV life can still be comfortable, clean and neat and elegant~

Watched your video over my dinner (ironically smoked salmon) -- loved the Mr Rogers homage! Keep channeling him -- it suits you. Didn't know that Amtrak stations with overnight parking could work for boondocking -- another good tip. Your very long lived flowers are cracking me up. Could you share how you prepare the crackling salmon skin? It's always seems a waste to me to chuck it out. Thanks for another lovely video, The chowder looked so good -- think I will give it a try...

So many viewers had commented on how there’s a Mister Roger’s vibe to my videos so i thought I would do a little homage to him. So for the salmon skin the first step is just to pan fry it. Then when the salmon is done you easily pull it off. Then the second step is to put it into a toaster oven on some aluminum foil and broil it for just a bit - a couple minutes until it is all crisped up to your liking!

@@Ultramobility Thanks Neil. I literally LOLd when you said it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Video, particularly in your format, can be intensely personal. It felt like you were talking to me. Glad to hear others notice the Mr. Rogers vibe. 😎

Actually many IHOPS allow overnight parking. I boondocks a lot and you do have to follow your gut anywhere you stay-even at some campgrounds. ...btw... that seasoning is probably Old Bay. Growing up eating Maryland blue crabs, it's like our life blood for all things seafood.
@Ultramobility Жыл бұрын
awwww, so helpful! I loved that salmon chowder too much and the secret is that seasoning. thank you!

A couple of questions…. How do you wash your RV? Do you have a full service place that will wash it for you? Or do you take your Panoramic to a self serve place with high pressure wands? I’ve seen you “prep” the RV for urban camping and road trips. I can see from the videos that you park on the street. Do you keep your fridge running all the time? Do you plug it into your home? Or do you just rely on the batteries on the Panoramic to keep the fridge running? How much downtime between trips/usage before you actually turn off the fridge?
@ccartee1 Жыл бұрын
Curious how you came to your choice of boondocking spot? As I was watching you, I started fiddling with iOverlander and AllStays. Not much from AllStays, but iOverlander showed a Cracker Barrel. Thanks again for taking us on your trips.

@@Ultramobility - 1. Sorry the flowers are dying, but glad they have lasted so long! 2. Have you considered evacuating your propane tank? Not just emptying it, but voiding it using a vacuum device made for that. Occasionally this is required as when open, when emptied they get air inside.
@Ultramobility Жыл бұрын
Erin, that is a good idea. If I can’t seem to get it calibrated once it warms up then I’ll try that. It has gotten better when I calibrated it after waiting a few days and ensuring that the ground was level.
