Good video! Direct to the point with no fluff. Most people take 40 or 50 minutes to do what you have done in 6. Keep up the great work.

Baking soda will impart a 'smooth' feel to the brass which makes it chamber easier. Also an oven brought up to a low heat then switched off will dry the cases quickly without fear of affecting brass composition.

How does the heat from the machine damage the brass? When the round is fired it gives off/has way more heat in the chamber. That said, wouldn’t the brass be too damaged to clean/reload....
@innerbarkoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Heat applied makes the chemical reaction too aggressive. The heat from chamber combustion is fast enough that it doesn't mess with the metallurgy
@James_Sovereign3 жыл бұрын
@@innerbarkoutdoors "The heat from chamber combustion is fast enough that it doesn't mess with the metallurgy". So the round cools down, to the temp before it was fired, immediately once fired? Your comments about heat damaging the brass are nonsense, just stop.
@innerbarkoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Annealing is a product of heat and time. Too fast for the extreme temp to do anything. You'll be work hardening more than annealing. Have a nice day.

Good clip. Ajax kitchen powder with a teaspoon of vinegar works well in 3 litres of water and doesn't need bicarb soda rinse, just warm water flush is fine. Unsure if Ajax is available in the USA. And before someone says"but pin tumbling is better" again... try pin tumbling a carburetor, reading glasses, jewelry, reloading dies and a heap of other home uses that ultrasonic does exceptionally well. Wanna clean a paintbrush? Just buzz it. Mum's silverware? Zap with ammonia... they're versatile. Four stars.

How much AJAX? We can get it here in the states. I like experimenting

Just strange that he said to not heat the mixture with the Ultrasonic device...but use hot water to rinse the casings...also when you fire shots the casings is very hot :-/

Heating the acid makes it work too aggressively. The heat itself doesn't do anything to the case.

Heads up, magnum rifle brass won't fit in the Lee Universal decapping die as the die body isn't opened up enough. Also the pin is too large for 6.5 Lapua. I ended up turning down the pin for 6.5, and I use a Redding die for everything else.
@innerbarkoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Good to know. I've never had the opportunity to use Lapua brass. Maybe some day...

Do you rinse the brass after it comes out of the ultrasonic? I forgot to rinse my 6.5 brass with water after it came out of the ultrasonic and put it straight in the dehydrator and my groups were shooting sporadically. I was using hornady one shot cleaning solution

Yes rinse - easy extra step to make sure its all good!

Can you reuse the vinegar cleaning solution that you made or is it a one time use only?
@innerbarkoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
To an extent you can reuse.
@zhukie3 жыл бұрын
You don't need an expensive gun-branded ultrasonic cleaner like Hornady - a simple ebay jewellery cleaner works just as well at a fraction of the cost.

So what if you are Doing a larger batch , do you have to let it brew for longer than 20 mins ? Cause this seems like the way to clean your brass as opposed to that ceramic media that takes like 3 hours
@innerbarkoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
It would deff. take longer - but for me wouldn't be a big deal, I tend to do the cleaning passively and go about doing other things while its working its magic. I can't say how l long it would take exactly tho sorry.

Nice video but does a little heat really effect the brass?
@innerbarkoutdoors8 жыл бұрын
It doesn't effect the heat treat, but the chemicals become more aggressive when you add heat.

I had an ultrasonic cleaner....got rid of it.....too much trouble and not enough volume. I use a Harbor Freight 2 drum tumbler. Can do 500 rounds of 223 in about 2 hours. I first de-prime all the brass I want to clean. Primer holes need to be clean too so out comes the primers.....I use the Lee de-primer die and that can do all the calibers I reload. Fill the drums with 250 each 223's......add a couple of cap fulls of Awesome cleaner from Dollar General or the industrial Purple cleaner from Home Depot. Add a tablespoon of LemiShine and then a couple of hand fulls of Tractor Supply sand blaster media along with filling the drums to about a half inch from the tops with water. Tumble for 2 hours and then dump the water...the water will be black.......rinse the brass in the drums.....then put the drums in a bucket filled with water......pull the cases out of the drums rinsing the cases of cleaners and sandblast media. I spray the brass with a small hose and water from the top into the brass with the primer pocket and then reverse it to make sure that no sandblast media remains. You can also use stainless steel pins but they are a pain to prevent losing so I use the sandblast media which I don't care about as it comes in a 50lb bag. The cases come out totally clean....primer pockets look new and the inside of the cases look new also. I let them dry out for about a day or two and then case trim with my World's best case trimmer on my drill press. I then lube them up with a home made combo of Lanolin and alcohol. Put them in a one gallon plastic bag and spray about 6 shots of home made case lube into the bag and move it around a bit to make sure all the cases are lubed up. I then run them through my Dillon RL550C. The ultrasonic cleaner I had would only do a few dozen brass at a time and was just not fast enough. The brass had to be in the center and any brass on the sides if you overloaded had to be done again. Tumbling is the way to go....and not the dry tumblers with corn cob or walnut media...too much dust ....I've converted to wet tumbling!

I get pitting around the primer pocket port into the main case chamber due to cavitation while using my ultrasonic cleaner. Has anybody else experience this problem? I remove the primer prior to ultrasonic cleaning.
@InnerBark10 жыл бұрын
I have not had that experience. Could you go into detail about the brass, primer brand, and powder brand?
@charchar810 жыл бұрын
***** I start with virgin Remington 308 brass. I notice the pitting on the after the first cleaning before 2nd bullet seating. The primer is CCI 200 large rifle. The powder is 43.5 grains of IMR 4064. The bullet is 165 grain Nosler Accubond or ballistic tip. Case length is 2.010 inch. Cartridge length is 2.8075 inch. I shot out of 20 inch barrel Armalite AR10T. I did not see pitting when using Frankfurt Arsenal walnut tumbler when using same exact set up as described above. I only started seeing pitting when starting using Kendal ultrasonic cleaner model HB-S-36DHT. The cleaner has 180 watts of ultrasonic power at 42 khz and 200 watts heater power. I use Lyman turbosonic cleaner solution per instruction. I clean about 100 cases in the basket each time for 30 minutes.
@innerbarkoutdoors10 жыл бұрын
Char Char Try a sample case without using heat as the heat might amplify any side effects that the acid might cause on the primer pocket. Also, does your cleaner have a de-gas feature, and are you using the lyman cleaning solution with distilled vinegar?
@charchar810 жыл бұрын
InnerBark Outdoors The cleaner does not have a de-gas feature. I am using the orange bottle Lyman turbo sonic solution and water mix only. I will try using without heater and water only on my next case prep and let you know results. Thanks for the help InnerBark Outdoors.
