I think there are two types of gun owners that gravitate towards ultrasonic cleaning: super anal OCD types, who are looking to hyper, clean their firearms, and lazy firearm owners, who are trying to figure out a quick way to clean without having to overly break down their gun and scrub. Unfortunately, for me, I wear both hats, and I am trying to examine this from both angles. If you guys are interested, let me know because I would like to make a video showing both, the deep hyper clean and the down and dirty rapid clean. I think it will be a great video that may answer a lot of questions.

I have been using industrial ultra sonic cleaners for decades. Forget all the ultrasonic cleaners, 3 washing liquid pods 80c 30mins sorted.

Great video. This topic has always been on my mind. A few months ago, I bought a HF import cleaner, but never used it. I still may not since I really have no clue of its power or capabilities. I’ll contact these Pro Cleaner folks…I’m sure the prices will not be HF prices!

I use ultrasonic cleaning for firearms, and I agree with nearly everything this man said. The only thing I take issue with is his claim about the lube bath. While ultrasonic cleaning will indeed allow the lube to hit all the nooks and crannies, he said that the lube will penetrate the pores of the metal. I had a metallurgist explain to me how metal has no pores, micro or otherwise.

Your metallurgist friend is definitely wrong. I am a dentist who had to undergo a lot of metallurgy training due to the metals that we use on a day-to-day basis (actually a bit less frequently, now that milled zirconia is prevalent), and the porosity of metals is something that could be used to our benefit (when bonding porcelain or soldering other metals) or to our detriment when dealing with bacterial and fungal infections. While I no longer utilize Frog Lube, I jumped on that bandwagon when it first came out and it absolutely did what it claimed - you would heat up the components of the gun, allow the Frog Lube to melt all over it, wait for the gun parts to cool and the Frog Lube to congeal, then completely wipe off all remnants of the Frog Lube until the gun parts were bone dry...and sure enough, as soon as you started shooting and the gun warmed up, you would see the moist lubrication on the gun parts. The most important part of lubricating via ultrasonic is the heating up of the gun parts to allow for the expansion of the pores that are most definitely present in metallic surfaces.

Doctor of Astronomy and Astrophysics, founder of Steel Shield Technologies, inventor of Weapons Shield, and known in the industry as the "Father of Advanced Boundary Film Lubrication and halogenation without corrosion" . He has quite a resume. You ought to look him up. Also, unless they changed the formula, Froglube is awful. Name me any other gunlube/oil where the possibly exists of your firearm not working if you don't apply it correctly?

If your friend, Dr. Fennell, is correct then your interpretation or understanding of what he said is not. Most gun metals definitely have porosity. You may want to look that up, perhaps the internet can explain it in a way you may understand. Frog Lube was all the rage back in the day and worked exactly as described, but if it got in the firing pin channel, it could gum it up.

​@@DrTac I'm not sure why you're responding to my comments from two different names, but be that as it may.... DrTac/ MrMightyMolar Froglube definitely didn't work exactly as described. As a matter of fact, Froglube's failures are the reason I first got in touch with George Fennell to begin with. I figured if I had questions and wanted to have a better understanding of advanced lubrication and surface tribology, why not ask a guy who had spent nearly half a century researching and developing it? I had asked him about the hype and some of the claims surrounding Froglube and he said "don't believe anything anyone says about "micro pores" of metal...metal has no pores, micro or otherwise". I interpret and understand what he said just fine, so lets cut the condescending bullshit out if we could please.

Really enjoy this and all your videos! Thank you! Looking forward to a part 2...my main concern is how to completely and properly lube parts after cleaning. Also, would you feel comfortable using Simple Green Extreme Aircraft as a solvent?

Thank you for the kind words. From everything I've seen, it appears that Simple Green Extreme Aircraft should be safe to use on gun parts (not wood). You are 100% correct, if you don't adequately lube the parts, after utilizing an ultrasonic unit to completely bare the metal, oxidation will occur quickly. To counter that, you can place the ultrasonically cleaned parts into a separate lube bath in an ultrasonic unit.
