Ultrasonic Sensor based Water Level Indicator

In this video, I'll show you how you can make an Ultrasonic Sensor based water level indicator. Generally, water level indicators are built using some transistors and LEDs, which require a conductor to be completely dipped in the water tank, and after sometime, the conductor reacts with water and it may stop working and also pollutes the water (unless the conductor is of stainless steel). To avoid all these problems, I made this project which does not require any conductor to dip in water and does the same job. Check that out.

If this sensor is placed inside the water tank, the sensor will be damaged due to evaporation. I have done this project before. Water due to evaporation gets stuck the sensor and loses its sensitivity. The working principal is good but practically a failure project.

Will it survive in high temperature 80-90 degree?? Will it work in boiler as water level indicater?

No it will not, for higher temperature radar transducer sensor is used

A good question. During the winter season (when I installed this), it ran without a problem, but in the summer, which is really hot in India, it didn't last long and I replaced the ultrasonic sensor with a waterproof one, now it is working great.

I do a similar proyect, measuring water level with an ultrasonic sensor aswell. This only work for about 1 month, the sensor get oxidated, so you answering your question this method don't work for long time

Just wants to know one thing. It will only indicate the water level or can switch off motor as well? Further how can we wirelessly send commands to sensor? As my overhead tank is on 3rd floor and obviously nobody would like to mess with this much effort. (Between great job. You explain it clearly) Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.

Thank you. It only indicates the level of water in the tank and you'll have to do major changes to make it wireless, I'll recommend using a RF Module.

If you buy waterproof ultrasonic sensor (link in description), it is completely waterproof. Also the price is not much higher than normal ultrasonic sensor.

Well, the problem with this ultrasonic sensor is it will die if ur tank is a closed one due to heat and water evaporation. There will be water droplets on the sensor face which will give bad readings. There is no way to shield them. Except, get a waterproof ultrasonic sensor which is triple the price of this one
