That magical first time I heard “One small day”, years ago: I was 17 and I was innocent, idealistic and so very impressionable. I was an angered, confused young boy, close to resign life. Then, at a so cold and cloudy winter afternoon, when I was doing a hard, complicated high school homework with a classmate for which I had complicated feelings; we were at his place (He was living alone because his parents was living in another country). Suddenly I start to heard that incredibly romantic, powerful and heroic lyrics with that sweet, juvenile, brave melody and, therefore, I recovered my lost wish to living, to feeling; I recovered my desire to feel the cloudy days light, these cold airs and have the power to react to all that with the renewed force from my strong youth. As else older commentors said before me: that was a magical age. How lucky people who was young in those haunted years. .

It's amazing how a year can change your life people. I wrote the comment about how I was 61 and born in 61 and yet 6 months after I made this comment this song literally was my lifeline to staying sane. The incredible pain I was in from a car accident, rear-ended, cost me not only the job as a driving instructor but my family is well because incredible pain makes you a miserable bastard. A month after they left me I found myself homeless sleeping in my car, advance into a shelter that a homeless dog shouldn't be placed in let alone a human being then finally another shelter for 5 months that was more like prison with the work release program . I'm thrilled that I'm no longer homeless or displaced and I hope that Midge or members of Ultravox read this because THIS SONG, I listen to almost every single day to get through the day. By the grace of God one day before the shelter was about to kick me out into a second bout of homelessness an apartment owner I'd called months before called and told me the unit was available... 😳👀🫂🙏🏾🙏🏻 Think about that... one day before 2nd homelessness. Thank you Ultravox, thank you Midge Ure. "ONE DAY, where every hour could be a joy to me, and live my life the way it's meant to be, one small day..."

I love the sound they went for here. The drums are huge, the guitar tone is massive, and those synth fills are heavenly. It's hard for me to put it into words really. A lot of the 1984 New Wave hits are better than their counterparts from 1983 when all these bands broke through in America. This, "Hands Across the Sea" by Modern English, and "Wonderland" by Big Country are just a few big examples.

Incredibly sad news tonight of the passing of Chris Cross, bass player with Ultravox. The version with John Foxx in the 1970s was one of my favorite bands. They played their last shows in March 1979 at the Cuckoo's Nest and The Whiskey. John Foxx went solo and the rest continued on with Midge Ure as the singer. Once Gary Numan and Human League had success as synth bands, John Foxx and Ultravox MK2 had more success and hits in the 1980s.
