Great videos mate! Just did another trip to Bali and these were super helpful for break insight, keep it up!!

1:46 high tide caveat: currents can make you miss the cave on your way out, which won't happen at low tide if that ever happens to you, an 800 metres paddle to the next beach will be your way out
@DanHarmon123 Жыл бұрын
Good point actually!! I actually did this on my first ever surf out there, ended up coming in and climbing over all the rocks and reef below the cliffs haha 😂
@jotaveification11 ай бұрын
@@DanHarmon123me too! I hadn't surfed for a few months because of traveling and my physical fitness wasn't very good, it was impossible to pass the current. I had to sacrifice my feet and go out the side😂

Hi Dan, heading to Bali on Sat (1/2/25), and trying to organise my friend who's a intermediate surfer for a guided 2 hour surf...are you able to recommend a beach that also has a bar/restaurant (as there's others in your group that won't be surfing) :-) Thank you, and great vid BTW.

Cheers for the insight, I’m going there in July. Noosa is my local so am used to crowds but looks like a tight take off with everyone bunched up and getting in the way. Hopefully a bit of size will thin them out.
@ericsummers12308 ай бұрын
It does.. I surfed it for a couple days one March when it was 8-9 ft… there was like 8 guys out.. one thing this guy forgot to mention is that the cave can get pretty sketchy when it’s high tide.. fun, but sketchy.

Just have a look on Google. Plenty of info about Yorkes, the Fleurieu and Eyre Peninsulas and all of the main surf spots. Not hard to find.

Was in Bali on my honeymoon in January & ulu was the only place on the bukit consistently breaking. Plenty on beginners out there (with surf guides) even on a head high day. Didn’t love surfing there with the crowd. Clown town forsure 🤡 Definitely preferred less known less crowded spots

its the indo version of Waikiki mush burgers rarely is it actually punchy ,, just an average point break with a hundred or so of ur best buddy's ,, was cool back when only had real monkeys hanging out on the cliff ,, but still a fun first stop for couple daze to get your indo legs under u before u break away for the rest of your trip

Where is everyone hiring these mopeds from bro? Nobody seems to mention it
@DanHarmon12310 ай бұрын
Hi mate!! It's a good question as theres no set place. Hiring a bike anywhere in Indo is a pretty loose arrangement haha. Whenever you arrive, just ask your accommodation and they will usually call a cousin or a friend or someone to sort it for you haha ;)

Hey Dan! Which, would you say, are the best months to travel to Bali considering crowds and quality. September/October.., perhaps, early season in March?
@DanHarmon123 Жыл бұрын
Yo mate! Yeah, to be honest, it's crowded almost all year, but I'd say any time during wet season is when you're more likely to randomly score somewhere with fewer people!! March could be a good shout!!

So many people trying to surfing spots like ulus who have no business being out there - everyone considers themselves an intermediate even though they live in some landlocked country and surf twice a year at best and can barely even paddle let alone control their board, the only thing keeping a decreasing few spots safe from these dangerous idiots is heavy localism rather than common sense, guides bringing out people and pushing them in or basically just letting them snake everyone because they are paying is making these spots even worse!
@nu078 ай бұрын
not a begginer wave....with a lot of begginers... f...nightmare. and then...impossibles is shit Closegan worse and dreamland is a dump.... so, check bingin ( dream wave...) if you can handle angry locals and get the f out there . Loved Bukit as you can tell :) :)
@johndoeyedoe6 ай бұрын
That is tiny bro. No wonder it didn't go well. I only surf slabs/reefs or wedge type shore breaks. Here it's all cliffs and reefs/slabs with open ocean paddle outs. Ulu gets pretty good and not crowded above 8ft.
@dmmoskov2085 Жыл бұрын
There is also a 'Uluwatu Secret' spot further south, past the temples. It only works during low tide but is less crowded.

I'm sure you could but to be honest, I wouldn't advise surfing Ulu's if you're not comfortable catching your own waves, as it would be dangerous to you and other surfers. There are loads of other breaks though in the area that might be better suited :)

Ah kooks are all over it and with this cafe restaurant living, everything I find repulsive. It's a place for parent sponsored 20yr olds. God a guy I played rugby with I never see him now but he surfs? I mean this guy had never been near the ocean and now surfs, ok good luck to him but the people who surf have changed. It's no longer about appreciation but what you can take, and keep on taking One day you will have to pay it back.

Disagree its one of the most overrated waves on earth its ok its not great as they said on the Gerry Lopez movie patagoina did about his life. ulus isnt even a surf spot. Ive surfed it a couple times and its so crowded. Having been to bali a few times id go back but just for a holiday I wouldn’t take boards if you want good waves go elsewhere. Compared to other parts of indo balis crap.
@crabbynebula Жыл бұрын
could you suggest other places in indo apart from bali?
@Karakaboardriders Жыл бұрын
@@crabbynebula depends on your skill level but there are great waves in the mentwais for all levels if your a intermediate and above G Land in Java there’s also other waves around Gland that are good if it’s to big for your liking. Lombok has desert point but Kuta Lombok has some more intermediate waves. Ululs is a ok wave and it’s one to surf for sure but world class is a stretch to me bingn is a much more perfect wave but Bali is so crowded. Pandang pandang is better. INDO has tons of amazing waves.

@@Karakaboardriders thank you so much, i will definitely look into these places. I am curious in which of these places i could stay for some time and find a community as well, for example i am thinking of a surfing hostel where i could work or volunteer at least

@@crabbynebula not sure. Maybe in the ments (mentawais) you can do surf guiding at resorts but need to know someone and be a pretty good surfer. A friend of mine has done it a few times up there stayed four months one time.
