Umarex Fusion 2 Full Review-Is It Worth It? Is it Accurate and Quiet? What About Small Pest Control?

This video started its life as a simple "Is it worth it?" episode. Five or six minutes and a conclusion. Obviously it didn't turn out this way.
This whole thing started with a request for a recommendation. Not the first time I've had this asked of me. But based on the requestor I decided I'd better do some hands on testing before I opened my mouth. So I bought one and started shooting.
Here's what I set out to discover...
Is the air rifle accurate?
Is the air rifle quiet?
Is the air rifle pleasant to shoot?
Does the air rifle produce enough power to kill small pest animals humanely at 15 yards?
In the end is it an airgun that a wide variety of people, kids included, can use to develop skills, and is it capable of leaning out the back door to take a squirrel off the bird feeder?
What you have here is my take on this, and because I came out of the experience so impressed, a complete rundown of its features.
Will this knock the FX Maverick off my bench as a daily shooter? Not a chance. But is it an easy recommendation to your non airgunning friends?

thank you for this Video, One Upgrade for the Fusion2 is the Umarex "Checkvalve adaptor" it screws on to either the 88 gram Co2 cart, this is a One way valve, it allows you to tighten it to either the 88 Gram Co2 or the 2 co2 9 gram carts, To me it make more sense to put the adaptor on the Larger 88 gram co2 cart, that means you can shoot as few of shots as you want, so only have 10 minutes to shoot, maybe only 20 shots, you can UNSCREW the 88 gram co2 and It WONT LEAK OUT all the Co2 in that Large 88 Gram c02 cart. Next Mod is for accuracy, Polish the Trigger, and provide trigger stop, and sear adjustment, then Look at the trigger spring, reducing trigger Pull by getting a smaller spring wire diameter that is slightly longer than stock spring, then Graphite Dry lube the trigger assy. By Polishing the sear and Trigger assy. the Trigger is greatly Improved I mean SUBSTANTIALY over the Stock Trigger, Lighter Spring and Polish Much smoother trigger pull. This make the Fusion 2 much more accurate at distance. I like the H&N pellets as per the HAM (Hard Air Magazine)testing of this Gun. 3-9x30 Bugbuster MIL Dot AO scope or Bugbuster 3-12x30 Mil Dot, Side AO are very good scopes for the cost. I would push a Pellet through the Barrel, to see its Contact with the barrel that alone will provide to you a Lot of detailed info if that is the right pellet for ANY gun Barrel. then push a q-tip through the Barrel, does it get snagged, looking at the q-tip tells you what the crown looks like, and if it is Burred or Clean. the Co2 Port, is another possible Burred area that could restrict c02 flow. and Obviously Clean the barrel before anything else.

another possibility is a Williams Rear Peep sight, Also Put O-rings on the Cocking Arm there is space for 4 O-rings it is Much Smoother! The Magazine If you MARK the Magazine with a DOT of White out, or Gun Sight Paint on the Rotating part of the Mag, Once it Get back all the way around it will tell you when you have Finished the Mag shot count Visually.

I just bought this gun. I own the first Fusion. I’m able to drop squirrels with it out to 30yrds. I bought the 2 because of the magazine feed. I just came off a two week, 90 bird killing spree and I can say it would have been well over 120 if I could have reloaded quicker. It has saved a ton of chicken feed. I’m just hoping it’ll perform as well as the first version

Put a empty co2 cartridge in first and then put a full one in last. You dont have to use 2 full co2 cartridges for it to work. Just wont get as many shots.

@@WiscAirGunners yeah, I Do that in my beeman QB78s and it is just as powerful but not as many shots...two co2 capsules in those is a bit of shooting... about 2x as much as I like to do.. one capsule will usually work with a empty one, just be sure to use the empty one against the valve and the full one last against the tube cap.

@@WiscAirGunners how funny. I just came inside from shooting the QB78s in. 177..that thing is a tack driver! Was about to do a .177 (cheap pellet accuracy review)..at 35 yds but it's too windy...had it all set up, targets and 13 different types of cheap pellets and boom the wind machine kicked off!...had to come in....lol..

Great job PJ! I love that Umarex rifle just not a fan of Co2. Now if Umarex would take this platform and make a pumper model for all weather at or under $150. That rifle would be the Ultimate regardless of temperature!

You can switch out the trigger spring with the spring from a ball point pen. Just make sure it's the same diameter and length. Happy shooting!

Yeah getting this to deal with the house sparrows taking over my feeders.. I spend over $500 a year on feed and they definitely eat majority of it anymore.

Make sure to remove the CO2 between sessions. You can operate it with one full and an empty for the same power but fewer shots. Leaving it too long with gas on board will dry the main o-ring and you’ll develop a leak on the cylinder.

I love mine, once the stock scope was sighted in, I had a 36 shot group that a nickel could cover shooting between 15-20 yards using Stoeger x-hunt 8.64 gr pellets. Seen a video the fellow hooked up hpa and it worked beautifully for those cold days shooting

Looks pretty decent for the price and capable of taking out pests. That's cool mlok stuff will mount to it, hadn't seen that advertised. People write off lasers but I've taken out rats with a daisy 426 co2 pistol at night with a laser and it definitely helps acquire the target quicker in situation like that.

No problems, but with any CO2 gun I expect to drain the CO2 at the end of a shooting session.

would it not be better to start with a high quality springer like a hw 30 s .same power or more 11 joule ,and you have no magazine`s or pellets in the barrel for safety when done, or co2 to think about ,and a springer is for learning shooting also the best

I think you have not experienced much shooting break-barrel airguns. They are not the best when it comes to accuracy.

We are using this for a kids camp and was wondering if you had any problems with longevity of the gun or how many rounds you think you can shoot before you're going to have problems with them

My son took this one away to college once he was out of the dorms, and used it on hunting trips in rural PA. I know he was not gentle on it, and it still shoots. I'd expect thousands of rounds. Eventually an o-ring will fail, but that's usually a fairly simple fix.

I still have the rifle. The scope had a crosshair, and I can't say much more. I found a red-dot to be more reliable and easier to see through.

Hi just got the fusion 2 and I am having a problem with inserting the cartage in the gun, why. i watched you on your video and you just slipped the cartage in, licked split, what am i doing wrong

I lightly sanded down the clear sides of the cartridges so they would slide in easier.

you have any issues loading the magazine in the rifle? i load from left side like it says but it is extremely tight and i have to punch it out with a small screwdriver. any suggestions?

Mine is tight, but not THAT tight. Make sure the magazine cover is closed properly. I've seen sometimes where it's slightly out of place and rides up, wedging the magazine in the breech.
