Intermaxillary Relations - Centric Relations

Why there are so many clinicians making identical indentation notches on both maxillary and mandibular wax rims? I mean, is it less appropriate not to make an extra space on the upper wax rim for the soft registration material ? Let´s say ones does identation notches on the upper rim the way you did it on the lower, does it have any influence on the intermaxillary registration?
