Cloneing works you can e.g. use Mirror-Sigil Sergeant and get a 4/4 trample each turn that can sacrifice a creature pay 1 and become a copy of that creature. Which means you can multiply your commander exponential and then when you actually have Roil Elemental you can sacrifice the creature and turn your token into it instead of your commander. Also Nightmare Shepherd will be amazing with the commander and Roil Elemental to get additional value from your opponent. Other creatures to keep in mind for cloning: Mirrorhall Mimic, Mishra's Self-Replicator, Myr Propagator, Mist-Syndicate Naga, Pack Rat, Sorcerer's Broom, Uchuulon.

Don't forget Cephalid Inkshrouder. Unlike Invisible Stalker you can also protect your giant beaters like Consuming Aberration by stacking the ability in the right way.

I could be wrong, but I was looking this up recently. Be careful with cloning Phage the untouchable with your commander. Because your commander is cast from the command zone and not your hand you could lose the game. I saw this nonbo with the Mimeoplasm, but not sure how this interaction occurs with a commander that's already on the board. Like I said, could be wrong but be careful.

Phages lose the game ability is an ETB. As long as a something becomes phage while already on the battlefield it is cool.

I was looking if there were any marit lage type combos here but I dont think there are any big ones. The best one i found was with thing in the ice but even then you still have to cast an instant or sorcery to flip it.

I have an idea, make Dane a copy of Lost Auramancers which is a creature with vanishing 3, so Dane just dies since he has no time counters and then you get to put any enchantment from your library into play, like omniscience for example.

Unfortunately Medomai will not go infinite though, because it says "~ can't attack during extra turns." which would apply to the commander also. You could swing with both on a natural turn to gain double, but it would not bounce back and forth. You would have to continue to renimate Medomai to continue the combo. Though you could do as you said and attack with a the CMDR and swap at instant speed, but to loop that combo you need a sheoldred or something similar. Figured I'd point that out ^.^

702.63a Vanishing is a keyword that represents three abilities. “Vanishing N” means “This permanent enters the battlefield with N time counters on it,” “At the beginning of your upkeep, if this permanent has a time counter on it, remove a time counter from it,” and “When the last time counter is removed from this permanent, sacrifice it.” Similarly, if a permanent without time counters on it that's already on the battlefield becomes a copy of a permanent with vanishing, it will stay on the battlefield indefinitely. If a permanent with one or more time counters on it that's already on the battlefield becomes a copy of a permanent with vanishing, it will vanish as normal. You sacrifice a vanishing permanent when you remove the last counter not by checking if the permanent has zero time counters on it, so no, Dane would not die by copying Chronozoa.

How does an effect like this work with modified/mutated creatures? Does Dane only become a copy of the original card, or the form that the creature was in when it was sacrificed, since it becomes a copy after the sacrifice?

You can mutate after changing dane which will add the mutations abilities but if you change dane after a mutation it will lose them because danes ability is becoming a copy so it wont be the same creature (mutation becomes a part of the creature and further change in ths way will negate it. Im quite fond of mutation and have several decks based on mutation so i had to learn the rules interactions for that ability.

You can however bestow onto dane with bestow enchantment creatures, enchant/aura and add +1/+1 etc. Counters which wont be affected by danes ability so there is that!

Like, if Dane copied a creature that already had, say, like 3 mutations on it, would it just be the top card? Or would all those mutations come with it?

You treat, names as if it's the name of the copied card, there's a lot of these effects in Magic. There's a lot of cards that can have other cards abilities, and names are always the name of the card with the ability, unless it's an ability that let's you search for a specific card.

No, if a card has already transformed that creature is already in play and is legal to target for copy effects, you dont want to copy a non-transformed card tho because transform exiles the card and it returns to the battlefield as the other side which if a copy actually transformed it would come into play as itself and a new object and not a copy anymore. So its better to copy after transformation to bypass the exile effect.

Mutation will be negated if the mutation occured before dane uses his change ability.

This is because mutation is adding to the creature, its not an effect like enchantment, bestow, equip etc. Its becoming the creature. Change after mutation will be negated because he is becoming a new creature and losing all aspects of the old form other than his static change ability.

Wizards should have thought more to the wording, it says sac a creature however it does not specify it has to be your creature that you control, I've been told recently you're not allowed to sac an opponents creature however everyone says reading the card explains card right? Yes, it doesn't have any party types on its own, but you can use its effect in a defensive manner to fizzle removal on key party members while retaining party types and counts

@@bobbycorn3966 I think because the way it plays is not great. ETB doesn't trigger on copying and you don't want your commander to die so death triggers aren't great. The strategy seems to be to switch creatures for protection, pumping, combat effects, and/or to double up on some abilities that are activated by tapping. Problem is that it'll cost you a lot of cards you had on the field and mana to do it and most people run cards that really hurt basic combat strategies. Taking control of opponent's strong cards and just sacrificing them is probably your best strategy. You're still reliant on them to have cards worth taking, though.
