As always, a terrific video. For reference purposes, is the latency higher than DJI? Can you do side-by-side video comparisons between DJI and the Avatar system at the same bitrate, resolution, and transmit power? And range testing? A lot to ask - I know - but you're an FPV community ambassador, and have always proved to be reliable and trustworthy so your opinions carry a lot of weight. Thank you!

on paper, the Fatshark system is faster at 22ms vs DJI's 28ms. While I haven't done range testing myself, RR's channel showed range being comparable. Unfortunately it's hard for me to find a spot here in socal where I can do a range test safely.... but I'll see wussup

On your previous video I was tempted to make a cutting remark as to still no competition. However this video is excellent and certainly as good as what I am used to with DJI. Well done Fatshark, Walksnail etc. just sort out your price to be cheaper than DJI and you will inherit a lot of users., because the goggles are a lot neater.

Yes, approx 10ms apparently. Seems like they traded less compression for more latency. I'm sure in small goggle screens when flying it looks pretty good, and that's what matters for FPV but watching this on my laptop, every frame I paused with grass in it has huge amounts of smearing still. It is much better than when first released though so hoping things can keep improving, as long as it's not at the expense of latency though, as that would be a killer for me.

hey tommy, the monitor you are using looks like a really old fpv monitor. monitors actually add alot of latency inside their hdmi inputs. Please find a monitor with a low latency hdmi port and try again. This way you can isolate whether its the monitor or the avatar system thats doing the latency.

Really, it's a mistake to combine the receiver and view screen in the same unit (as goggles do). You want them totally separate, so one can advance independently, and the other as well, connected together via a standard cable, and you can upgrade one side or the other. With goggles, you pretty much have to throw away the whole unit.

Great review. It wouldn't surprise me that FS would purposely release a BETA firmware while already possessing the tweaked, .5 version that fixed the problems. Lets see how many further "fixes" are released that enhance PERFORMANCE (visual or latency upgrades - (NOT UI UPGRADES or "ISN"T WORKING NOW BUT WILL WORK EVENTUALLY" ) - I'm guessing probably NONE) Even the first Rotor Riot reviews looked better than the firmware that they shipped with. That blocky looking image they shipped with wasn't an error, it was a clever marketing technique.

@k4x4map462 жыл бұрын
I'd say we've been told!! thanks though; education may include at least a single reference... An OTG cable has a micro-A plug on one end, and a micro-B plug on the other end (it cannot have two plugs of the same type). OTG adds a fifth pin to the standard USB connector, called the ID-pin; the micro-A plug has the ID pin grounded, while the ID in the micro-B plug is floating. USB On-The-Go - Wikipedia [just a small reference to get started] still insignificant without an application for the full educational immersion!! Great point ya made for sure!!

Yeah, again, the latency to an HDMI monitor is disappointing. How can these video guys keep failing at this. Just give us a good digital video receiver box that outputs to HDMI or DisplayPort. how hard can that be? I don't want to fly wearing goggles, ever, or at all. I wouldn't be plugging into a 10" monitor... more like a 42" TV or bigger for a totally imemrsive experience. Once you fly that way, you'll wonder why you ever tolerated 2" goggle screens at all.
