Agree... but cross compatibility requires agreement in a competitive market where even getting a standard established for a basic simple battery connector now "mostly" the XT30,60,90 series has left us without a high amp 1S 90C connecter (XT15, 10 would be nice) with GNB Batteries replacing both versions of the GNB27 and going back to the gosh awful PH2 connector that was not designed to be a battery connector.

16:50 This does not sound clear to me, I'm new to the hobby. In analog, I assume the OSD is added to the video feed that comes from the drone. Meaning, you couldn't have a second receiver record clean video, as the color/pixel data behind the text is lost. For that reason it's beneficial to have telemetry be received(closed caption/subcarrier?) and interpreted by the goggles, so for example clean video can be sent out an HDMI port as well as the ability to have a *second receiver getting clean feeds. * I envision a DVR that grabs and records everything it understands.

Thank you for this video, Tommy. I was waiting for it, as I believe you are probably the most fair and unbiased professional pilot reviewer in the FPV community, as to my knowledge you aren't being paid by Rotor Riot or Red Cat Holdings. Two questions please: 1) If you had to buy either DJI or the Avatar system at *this point in time*, which would it be (also taking into account that DJI is actually less expensive)? and 2) You're a professional pilot - at *this point in time*, would you trust the Avatar system on a cinelifter or any FPV quad being used for mission-critical professional filming?
@ummagawdFPV2 жыл бұрын
Hey Diego! If I wasn't already heavily invested in DJI and I was able to review/test both systems AS OF TODAY. I would go DJI. As for your second question, I haven't been able to test the system on set in the professional world so I don't know how it behaves along side the myriad of things that are transmitting (like a teradek or microlite). If the Avatar system proves to be more resilient under the noisy RF environments on set, then I would choose it over DJI.

I'm still flying analog and looking at all of the options. One of the things for me that's a ding for DJI is that it's not clear to me how long you will be able to obtain vtx's for a set of goggles that they discontinue. Today the air unit is out of stock on the DJI web site and we know their V2 goggles are being replaced by presumably something else. HD Zero looks like an option but their current VTX line up is limiting for is power across the various board sized. Will be interesting to see where the Walksnail firmware goes in the near future.

I don't understand why they didn't provide video input for analog VRX or for PC simulator ? Is it "hard" or the chip tech doesn't compatible at all to provide the feature ? What I expected from walksnail/fatshark HD googles is a VRX module bay, 3rd party product is okay as long as they provide the possibility (video-in). Analog won't be dead in 1 decade because it is more universal, relatively cheap, a lot of options, and a lot of people already using it and might still want to keep using it for some reason, example for tinyWhoop or lite weight micro. Unless the manufacturer and the business want it to die soon ...

Yea... it seems like a good feature to have especially for those transitioning from analog and have a lot of drones. It certainly helped me transition to DJI as I wanted to fly multiple drones when I go out, but only wanted to carry one set of goggles.

@@ummagawdFPV yeah, I love being able to use the URUAV analog adapter V3 with the very solid metal case and fly really good looking analog! The best image quality I've ever had with analog is with the DJI V2 goggles! IMO, that's a huge downfall of the Fatsnail system is no analog! One easy way to afford these digital systems is to sell you used analog goggles! My friend sold his HDO's for around $400 and was able to easily sell an analog quad that was his least favorite and he had all the money for the DJI V2 goggles. With having to keep your analog goggles along with buying digital, it makes it much more "cash outta pocket" with buying the WalkShark! (?) lol or, as Botgrinder calls them, the FatShart! 🤪

Never mind an A/B test with DJI, how about an A/B/C with DJI and HDZero? You wanna talk latency?

but you did the review without the new firmware? bardwell made a 2nd vid with updated FW, better smieryness with like a drew -handled unofficial FW, and I think more latency...about 34ms... weird man this is the 2nd review and FS really missed on this... those first reviews are so important.. FS marketing smarts..lol

I think it had the new firmware.

It has to be the new firmware, as the image quality difference between JB's first couple video and Mr Steele's "review" and *this* review is honestly significantly improved - it appears they tweaked the compression algorithm. That being said, the latency is *terrible*, and JB's most recent video demonstrated significant stuttering at only moderate ranges. They also appear to have forgotten to build in an overtemp shutoff, so if your quad falls out of the sky some distance away (unless your battery ejects) by the time you get to it the VTX will probably be burnt out.

The digital systems took so so long to arrive to the market. I mean we’ve been using 5.8 GHz all along for the analog video for f. sake.

Why would DJI be worried about this half assed, broken, not ready product? Maybe in a year when this is sorted out and works correctly. Even then DJI will be on V3 or higher while Fatsnail is still trying to get this V1 working. Better question should be.. Should Walkshark be worried about HDZero? Fatshark already screwed Karl so he has a reason to try to kill this joke.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that dji v3 will be for fpv freestyle. All leaks and leads point to the cinematic world with all in one action camera vtx’s that is gonna be blowing your wallet out to put them on a fleet of quads. I bet the vtx’s will be closer to $300 a pop and goggles prolly won’t change a lot. I have both v2 and new fatshark. According to what has been said and leaked, v3 isn’t for me. Guess we will see

yeah... I'm really tired of the bulky DJI headset especially with the BDI

30x30 please. Love the smaller profile. One of the many reasons I would never buy DJI goggles... the HUGE size. Time to empty out my wallet.
