My Wife and I , kinda fell into Umph 10 years ago..... An100 + shows later, 8 Newyears Runs, we are still ill with the addiction. 2 VIP meet n greets were one of the highlights of my life involved with music. Jake...... approached us one morning, 3am in Vegas after an Um Bowl . And to remember us, just a pair of thousands, Was so touching . Him rembering that meet n greet... my story and how Jake and Umph Lifted me to another level( I make sounds on guitar) Is so freaking awesome. The band members are so open and normal .. . Its too much

Last year, on a clear Sunday after New Year, on a Metro bustop bench, sat a cold and lonely Umphrey's McGee DVD, "New Year's at the Riv." I'd never heard of them. SO instead of tossing it in the adjacent trash can, I adopted the orphan, took it home, and surprise, the orphan fed ME. LOv'd the unexpected homages in this show. Beatles, FLeetwood Mac, Flock of Seagulls, ZZ Top. I going back, jack, play it again.

This set reminded me of why i got into music in the first place. Not just this set, but this band! Umph has been there for all us when we need that perfect voice in your head at the perfect time. The perfect embodiment of music as art and art as music. A more perfect balance has not ever been and will never be.

First time ever hearing them, and as a 50yo former Deadhead, I am ashamed to admit that. I'm booking tickets to the next, closest show I can find. I reminds me of the feeling I first got listening to Phish except these guys have 10x the talent and 10 to the 12th power less ego. Welcome to my world, guys. Whoa.
@maynardofthejungle80314 жыл бұрын
I've seen UM twelve times, met them as well, they are hands down my favorite band to see live and I am a diehard Phish phan. The most intricate and yet organic music I have ever seen, the Draconian from this show was the first moment of true liftoff I saw come out of them.

I dig their sound. A buddy at work recommended this group of talented musicians to me. I know for some music snobs that it is "socially shameful" to compare artists, but I feel King Crimson influences throughout! I mean it as a compliment, truly. Great soundscapes in this performance. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

They've covered King Crimson's "Red" before, and they've probably covered others. They surely have a lot of prog influence.
@SlashyJ3 жыл бұрын
For sure some KC influences. This is one of the first times listening to them, I'm just finding out about them for some reason. I did hear about half a measure that sounded like the Grateful Dead, but thankfully that was it! 🤣😂Joking. I respect the Dead as musicians, but just can't get into their music except for a few songs.

Tonight I got to watch the show at home with my two sons (the grade school one had tablet to get him through "the boring parts") which was a big thrill. Not as fun was when the wife realized you were playing ' I Ran' and I realized that I had seen Flock Of Seagulls (with The Police) in concert in the previous millennia. Great show and great career guys, hope you make it back here one day.

Well now I have :-) Its really great to see they are packing shows with a younger generation.
