MLB gives the Yankees and Mets an unfair advantage by having the replay team in NY, staffed by (you guessed it) Yankees and Mets fans. It's friggin' 2 am when they are reviewing plays late in West Coast games. The replay room should be in some neutral place like Helena, MT or Las Cruces, NM instead of New York.
@BurnNotice2023Ай бұрын
The history of reviewing plays that were wrongly called and confirming them anyway is long against the Astros. It's very similar to Roger Goodell's effing of the Saints after Bounty Gate.

That's one of the things I don't understand about replay. If they can have a replay ruling of the call stands because there isn't enough evidence to over turn a call, then why can't they review plays like this? I mean, these happen so fast it's easy to get wrong.

ALL plays should be reviewable... time to stop drawing lines as to what can and cannot be reviewed. Make all plays reviewable and to add a twist - if the umpire making the call gets the call WRONG - a team should be able to switch out the umpire who made the wrong call for another umpire already on the field. (You know, since umpires feel like people go to ball games to watch them instead of the players playing the game)

I know they say the percentage of calls being right has gone up in the last few years, but the amount of egregious missed calls that can't even be reviewed or sometimes are reviewed and still called wrong app review as in evident during last night's baseball game in which the Padres batter was called for a hit by pitch turned the umpire side. The ball never touched me. Astros challenged. It can clearly see the ball never touches him and still they say hit by pitch. F****** absurd.
@orangehoofАй бұрын
Then Profar became the final out of the game due to a force out at second by Altuve's replacement. Profar screamed at the umps all the way back to the dugout, perhaps claiming the HBP essentially ended the game. Seriously, there should be fines and suspensions.

It’s actually could fall under continued complaining which is an ejectable offense per the rules, so the umpire technically was in the right to eject him. Also if the umpire didn’t see or hear the ball come off his foot than he’s not going to say that it did. We’ve seen players say that they foul tipped a ball when they obviously didn’t. Not because they are lying but they felt something in the moment. So the umpire can not necessarily take the players word for it. I’m not trying to diss anyone I’m just trying to add context to the situation.
@davidmendoza3519Ай бұрын
While I agree with you that the Ump shouldn’t call something if he didn’t see it, the standard practice for umpires when they’re not sure is to check with either the 1st or 3rd base umpire to confirm, he failed to do that for mostly all his terrible calls and even video replay on the “hit by pitch” clearly shows the ball never even grazed his sleeve and the call was upheld? There is no excuse for that from a major league umpire crew,and don’t get me started on them Icing Hader while they figured out the rules,which I fail to see how you can become a major league umpire and not know what the step off rules are for pitchers. There’s no defense for the umpires in this one, I urge you to watch the game if you didn’t see it and if you come to the same conclusion then fair enough but I seriously doubt that you would

MLB umpires have way too much power. Some of them are so arrogant and ANYTHING, regardless of how innocent it is, can set them off without the possibility of punishment by the league. I can not wait until the virtual strike zone is initiated into the league. The only drawback with that is that I'm hearing each team can only dispute a questionable call 5 times per game. I've seen that many egregious calls behind the plate in just 1 freaking inning.

Only evidence is the replay. Showing his foot proves nothing as circumstantial. If ump didn’t see or hear it hit Altueves foot, to him it’s just a mark that could be from anything. This is why a fast replay right to plate umpires ear would be great to overturn the ruling. The replay is the only hard evidence to prove the mark on his foot is from that hit. Without it, it’s he said she said.
