Best I've heard. It has just enough emotion without screeching. Most Sopranos have a hard time finding that balance.

Agree.. easily the best rendition of this I've heard.. Great control without any over-singing and a magnificent sounding voice to boot. In fact, this is so good it's effectively ruined it for me when I listen to other sopranos' (and that includes Maria Callas) versions. They pale by comparison, so I can't really appreciate their efforts any more.

Back when the A&E channel was still arts and entertainment my mom would turn it on for the morning opera songs they'd play and this was always my absolute favorite. It was one of few songs that would actually get my hyperactive butt to sit through the entire song mesmerized

FYI: Ying Huang (Chinese: 黄英) is a Chinese operatic soprano. She first came to international attention when she sang the title role in Frédéric Mitterrand's 1995 film adaptation of Madama Butterfly and went on to an international career both in opera and on the concert stage.

@@fauspt Ying Huang is a best known opera singer and professor at Shanghai music conservatory. Proudly made in China, 100% pure Shanghai local. At the make of this movie, she was so so young and unknown, give credit to those directors. And you can find quite a few videos on youtube of her's. She did a great movie english version of Magic Flute at Met, can also be found on youtube.

Of course a lyric coloratura soprano like Huang Ying had trouble with this spinto soprano role. But as a young singer fresh out of the Shanghai Conservatory she managed to find the right footing to sing with the right weight and color. Huang was also able to identify herself with the character, with a great respect for Butterfly's ideals of love, to look within herself and her heart to create one of the finest operatic portrayals I have ever seen

extreme sadness, yet Puccini made in a extremely beautiful music and singing... how ironic, and how much more tragic, give credit to the composer, he wrote into deepest field of unknow untouched world, like this, japanese art prostitute, he also wrote about the chinese princess that was ghosted by her ancestor who was forced into suicide... he celebrated the poor artist in Laboheme, Puccini changed the opera into ordinary and lowest society...
