Staging when selling is an American/Canadian thing. In Argentina, Italy or Spain (where I've lived), you either empty the house or potential buyers have to use their imagination. Your style was so much more beautiful. Team fluff, the chopping is ridiculous to me

When my cousin was selling her house they told her people don't want to see the hyper personalized life you've built in that house. They want to see the space for their own touch and the life THEY could build in that house. Which is fair because it's a selling tactic and you could ignore it but at the end of the day you're selling that house. Your goal is probably to sell it for as much as you can.
@poodlegirl552 жыл бұрын
@@Dimsrose Exactly. And if people are so busy looking at your decor they can't see the features of the house or the size. Becky's house did look bigger in the after.

As someone who also loves the 70's/retro/mid century vibe, I am super partial to the way you had it styled. I work in real estate and see this simplifying of homes all the time when it comes to selling and I'm always a little sad to see a home stripped of its unique pieces. Something I would recommend, remove anything small and valuable (like the Google Homes you have throughout your house) if you are planning to host open houses where there will be many people coming to view your home at one time. You never know who is coming in and often things like that can end up going missing. Just a recommendation to protect your valuable items!
@horsejumper42 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love your style but love the staging too! I see a lot of comments complaining about staging but it matters so much in buying! Not everyone has a crazy imagination to look past everyone else's clutter and style. Much easier for me to see the potential in a space if everything is more neutral :)

I have no interest in ever moving from my current house, and I still found this video fascinating. Most of the stuff the stager brought looked like it came straight from Target, and I know I love my Target stuff with a passion for a year or two and then I'm ready to let it go. My vintage finds are the things that I continue to love for years and years.

Team fluff for sure. I loved all the personal touches that you had in the before version, but it's easier for buyers to imagine living there when the house looks more generic. The house looks uncluttered and spacious, and that's what buyers want. Good luck on a quick sale!

Oh my heavens! No contest! YOUR styling is FAB U LOUS!! The staging style is so without life!! It looks like a hotel not a home. I get the whole 'staging' stuff, but both homes we purchased were fixer uppers & disasters. I personally would've had to deal with a bad attitude in hving someone tell me what to remove or leave in my home before selling. You sure did better than I would've! When we sold our 1st home, we had over 350 people in our home In 30 days because it was MY style, not staged. The realtors loved it. All the homes in our area, ( at the time the #1 buying neighborhood in all of USA), were all 'staged' in the neutrals, so the realtors sd showing my home md it unique. Just sharing my experience! When we helped my elderly mom sell her house we moved everything out and painted and added trim and overhead lighting in the basement, the stagers staged every room except two that would sell themselves because of the architecture. They were very skilled and brought in high end look furniture and coloring that complimented the beautiful colonial 1920's woodwork and paneling that could have been a liability to younger buyers who may have thought they would have to paint it (gasp).. with the muted teal blues and oranges brought in there was no doubt it would appeal to all ages and it did, it sold after a bidding war a week later. I absolutely was in love with what they did. I am team chop because it picks up the fireplace hood shape and doesn't make that feature stick out as dated.

I like both ways of styling. Becky's is actually how the home functions, and the staged version is more open to adding one's personal style. If I could include both versions I would. The home I'm currently renting was purchased a month before renting, so I was able to find the real-estate photos and I was a little upset about some changes the rental company made. They took out ceiling fans! Air flow is so important! They took out mirrored shelves in a basement bar area! I still love my home, but it's not the choices I would have made.
