Your reviews are the most thorough, well paced and informative I've seen on YT so far. Keep up the good work. Do you think at some point Australia will have a drivers license ranking system where, based on your driving history, your license will automatically unlock ANCAP safety systems in new cars so that the bing bongs ding dongs beeps bonks alarms don't go off automatically because it knows it has a competent driver at the wheel?? Those ANCAP safety systems are best for those careless drivers who don't pay attention who are prone to smashing into things. Speaking of smashing into things, are you testing all the auto braking systems to prevent drivers from driving into obstacles like park benches and shopfronts??
@therightcarАй бұрын
Thanks so much! Appreciate that. I doubt that, very highly. Brands are less worried about annoying you with safety tech than they are about marketing their cars as five-star performers. So, the tech will remain, and some brands will integrate it better than others (and, in general, the Chinese do it worse than others).

Please, please, dig into the electronic issues all MG models seem to have. I was (very) considering buying one, had a great test drive, but wanted to try a longer drive so got the bright idea to hire one for a trip to Canberra that was coming up. A quick google search lead me to my local Sixt car hire who had them in their fleet. When I went in to hire one they refused to hire me one, stating they have all been parked up to be sold off due to continuous issues with the electronics. Stallings, bad lag on acceleration, fantom fault lights were some of the issues mentioned. I have been asking every MG driver I have come across since about there experience with the car, and a disturbing high number have also been mentioning electronic issues that they take back and get 'fixed' under warranty, only for the same issues ro return months if not weeks later

Thanks for the review. It's apparent that MG has improved the HS substantially, and restrained themselves on price rises (for the Vibe). It'll sell. I'd spend a bit extra for a CX5. For the small displacement, the MG HS is quite thirsty at 8.2 l / 100km. I prefer a conventional, reliable, smooth-shifting automatic transmission to a DSG/DCT (which almost always have expensive longevity issues that are not covered by warranty, as the clutches are a wear & tear item).

@therightcar I missed that bit about you calling out the manual rear mirror so thanks for pointing that out. Also what's the point of having a power tailgate but not being able to activate it from inside the car! We rely on that to drop our kids off then they grab their school bags. My Citroen C5 had the same issue - due to no power tailgate button inside the car, had to stop the engine otherwise the remote's boot button wouldn't work, but had to then also step out of the car to operate the physical boot button to close the tailgate! I got around that by installing a separate remote trigger button but don't/can't do that in a new car ...

Offer a PHEV before April next year and as long as it's not too much more than the Sealion, I'll sign on (via a novated lease naturally for the FBT free before April 2025). BYD support from Eagers is at best still highly questionable (based on so much feedback I've gleamed from owners groups over the past year) - I'd take the factory supported MG backup any day, even if the car itself is not as advanced as the equivalent BYD (let's face it the majority of BYD's are a step above the equivalent MG's but that's a huge ask to risk poor support).

cynical answer: captive market. they know you cant afford to buy anything else, and you need warranty, so you'll pay whatever they tell you to to maintain the warranty. ***** benefit of the doubt answer: recover warranty costs during that 10 years of coverage. no car is going to be fault free for ten years. i'm certain every car will go through a gearbox and some aspect of the intake system (turbo, intercooler, injectors), within the 10years. ***** and also, $574 as an average isnt terrible. i'd bet there are a many $350 services and one or two $850 services in the 10 years.

Took it for a good test drive: The safety pack was honestly horribly intrusive and can actually cause an accident as it constantly interrupts your driving. There are constant beeeps and flashings left, right and center. Another bad thing is the speedometer, it's set too high on the dash and can be hard to see if you're 6ft tall, the flat steering also interrupts the view. Side mirrors are set too high and make it incredibly hard to see corners when turning. Engine was great, quite punchy, smooth and quiet. Gearbox was fine, very noticeable when changing gears, not refined although the torque converter would have been so much better. I'm done with the DCT or DSG. Takes fun out of driving and they're all crap and become highly unreliable in a long run... Dump the DSG or CVT or DCT and just let us enjoy the drive!!!! Listen to the consumer!!! Otherwise a nice car... I decided not to get it simply due to highly intrusive safety crap. If you are going to put that much safety crap in it then let the car be fully automated and drive itself. It's a no from me and I wouldn't recommend it.
