I think I would have tucked the hair dryer behind the door where the stool is (when the door is open, it's not much and eyesore). So that the ironing board could be more accessible (same for the hairdryer). And maybe move the dresser a little more to the left so that you could put the wrapping paper basket next to it. Still, it's really inspiring and motivating to see people organizing for their needs.
@jokebetweenthetrees16 күн бұрын
Came here to type down this idea. Also, the top drawer of the dresser is empty, the wrapping paper will fitt in there I think. Even more neater!!! And would have put the 2 baskets with sowing stuff from downstairs, upstairs on the empty shelves. Sowing fitts with the ironing, so makes sense imo.
@Grace-dy4bh16 күн бұрын
Yes! The drawer is a bit awkward right by the door.
@WellEditedCo16 күн бұрын
I had the exact same idea! Hairdryer can go behind the door and gift wrap can fit where it is now. Also, the dresser a little bit to the left would help my eyes that need everything to be “just so.” 😅

Suggestion to hang the ties in the closet next to where the suits are on the left hand side.Since they don't get used that much and you would normally need a suit for them.And that will free up a little bit of room in the area that he access is more frequently. Could even hang the ties in the suit bag so that they don't get very dusty.

I’ve given up buying wrapping stuff. I use brown kraft paper, use stamps to make different patterns and add a little bow with baker twine. It just makes life so much easier and it takes up so much less room. But I respect those like Mary who want to use the colorful ribbons and paper.

April, this couple is so awesome. Jack was such a good hearted trouper, and watching his wife glow with pleasure when he saw his closet was such a pivotal moment. This really shows all of us, the importance of just getting started in a messy area, dismantle it, declutter it and put things back in an organized manner. Very satisfying process to watch. Now the whole family is ready for Baby Girl. I do feel bad for Jack that he now has that pile of decluttering to get out of the house. I suspect we all have that hanging around our homes. Great job! Can’t wait till your next video.
@RobinLNJ15 күн бұрын
I totally understand the joy of stepping back and staring at a space that went from…. Piles of clutter that are avalanching on you…. To knowing what’s in your space and being able to find your important or favorite things. Just from watching the videos of this family decluttering, I went through my kitchen cooking utensils, got rid of things I never use, duplicates….and I used bins to hold my measuring spoons and some other gear. It feels SO GOOD to put away clean dishes and open these new drawers and know all my items have a PLACE where they belong and I can easily find them. Getting rid of the melon baller, pineapple corer, extra potato peeler, extra knives I didn’t like…. Made space for me to have places to find the things I do want in my world.

I agree with Jack and Mary. April, you are the best! I purchased your book (kindle edition, to save space!) on December 17th. My husband recently passed away in November from cancer. I was hit by the sudden thought that I didn't want my daughter to have to deal with my own clutter, much less her dad's as well. So, as we take steps toward healing, we are going through his things, and I'm decluttering my own things too. My 19-year old daughter is beginning to declutter as well. Your book is guiding me, and inspiring me to do what I had not done at all during my 20 years being married. I'm just sorry he's not here to see the result, but I know he would be pleased. Thank you so much! 🙂

I think she should move the dresser to a completely different spot, maybe behind the door across from the wrapping paper basket. Then put a small (rocking) chair in front of the small alcove where the hair dryer is. All she would have to do is turn the hair dryer on and have a seat. She might use it more and it makes sense to have a chair in the nursery.

An old trick for wooden draws is to take a candle stick and or candle wax and rub it on the bottom of the draw. It helps with the traction. Skateboarders also do this, to help their board slide. It may also be used in skiing and snowboarding also.

Photo's to the basement?! NOOOOOO! As a family archivist those photos are way too fragile to be in the basement (less climate controlled) same for the attic. If you want them to be available for future generations (like your granddaughter!) they need to be in a place with no moisture swings and low temperature swings. Also, think about getting them scanned onto a device so that in the event of a flood you don't lose the photo's.. Storing your most prized keepsakes and photos in archival solutions (acid, lignan free) will keep them safe into the future Your house looks great!

April, I just have to say, that I'm so incredebly happy that I discovered your channel. You're such a heartwarming person. First I saw the series with Dani and after that finished I couldn't imagine that there would be someone as lovely as her. Then I watched the episodes with Tracy and I totally loved them as well. So sad that these series are over. But then the episodes with Christine and Colin came. They are such a great and gentle couple, I fell in love with the family especially with Mary and how she gratuitously did the work in the background to support the two. I then had hoped for a declutter at Mary's and it came true. This whole family is so heartwarming and you just wanna be part of them. They are so lucky to have each other and I'm sure that the little one will be loved and is so blessed to have such an incredible family. When Jack told April she is like third daughter tears came to my eyes. Such a compliment from if you will complete strangers in that short amount of time is so wunderful. And also the work you guys did was amazing and how willing you were to let go of stuff kind of animated me to declutter my flat even further. I wish you all the best for the future and I'm so excited to see more from April and I'm sure we are going to love the next series as much. Thank You und lots of love from Germany❤

@abbystahl959216 күн бұрын
I’m so curious with the storage area before the baby room- what did it look like behind the door where the ladder is? Unrelated to decluttering, but what if the door was mounted to swing the other way into where the gift wrapping dresser got moved to- is there a spot where that ladder was placed where the dresser could go then next to the wrapping paper? Changing the door swing would then allow for so much more natural light that is currently being blocked by the door when it’s open into that space. Also in the later room with the two big wooden closets, I feel like committing the first one to big long shelves would be more functional than having a gaping space with an unused hanging rod- items could easily be taken on/off shelves instead of being stacked on the bottom and subsequently on top of each other, making it more difficult to both get to what they want and to remember what all is being stored in there.
@adventuresinfaith961616 күн бұрын
It looks like the ladder leads into an attic of some sort - I think I saw a gap in the ceiling. If so, then the ladder probably can't be moved.

Loved the "wrapping station" in the chest of drawers! That was great. Thinking outside the box when it comes to organizing the home has got me pretty far. I thought I'd share some creative storage solutions we use. 1. A chest of drawers for craft supplies & sewing fabrics. 2. A small desk as my dressing /makeup station. 3. An entire tiny closet to my cleaning closet for vacuum, mop, bucket & cleaning products. 4.A large dining room buffet/sideboard now houses all my husband & my office files/papers & desk supplies. (This was a very convenient since we rarely have any office type work to do anymore since we've retired.) 5. Best of all in the entry coat closet in a suitcase I keep some Important papers- documents (Those items you need to grab & run with incase of an emergency). (i.e.. hurricane, earthquake, flood, fire) are ready to roll out the door if need be. 😊

The pillow looks like it was stitched with "Candlewicking" technique. French knots and other stitches use cotton candlewicking.
