I did see a video earlier where a BMW managed to hoon it across so rapidly he hydroplanes across. He nearly stacked it for lack of steering but I was rather confused that he made it out the other side still driving. Will not be attempting that approach myself at my local underpass. But I ride an electric motorcycle and don’t want to test the water proofing with the battery between my legs so I will stick to switching it off and walking it along the footpath.

@@adinigel guess it depends on small print, the situation as example you at high point between two floods but you are going to get flooded maybe then. but they will do all they can not to pay out and time it now takes to fix is crazy if you go through insurance so you maybe better off just pay yourself a small loan if need be if it even worth fixing. some new cars just sat there for long time one is Mercedes waiting on a door card but as insurance needs new parts and back to new it cannot be fixed till the new part arrives but a job should take no longer than two three days for it to arrive. insurance needs to change it way if customer happy with a good condition used part go with that option, one example car needing new grill the rest car painted and good but been sitting for 6 weeks and every day it a rental car and storage costs this one big reasons i feel we getting charged more but even so many insurance company's making extra 100 million £ from the year before. the whole insurance ind need an overhaul and many could be doing illegal stuff too according the Financial Conduct Authority what insiders have said who worked in the insurance ind. id say if you can get small affordable lone to fix car you may be better off in the long run esp if your car the parts take a long time it just means very high insurance claim and they not forget that, some cars it may be worth it some not, slight bump id fix it out my own pocket id not even mention it as soon as you esquire you pay more following year if you claimed or not. with flooded roads if they prove it was not on purpose like drive around a corner plow in to it i feel different but go around road closed signs that whole other story that may be a refusal to payout. so many factors and big question is it worth even worth going through insurance if they are willing to help

Zeroth, avoid water crossings unless absolutely necessary. First, know the wading depth of your vehicle, where your air intake is, and let your vehicle cool down. Second, walk the obstacle to know how deep it is, and how fast the water is flowing. Watch out for snakes, hippos and crocodiles. Third, drive in slowly, preferrably in low range 2nd gear (or HR 1st), then gather speed to create a bow wave in front.
@johnnichol9412

Do they not have road traffic workers to shut down roads and divert traffic in times of flood in the UK?
@EleanorPeterson
@EleanorPeterson 3 ай бұрын
Yes, but we also have drivers who couldn't give a toss about diversion signs and barriers and who ignore good advice in order to try to get where they want to go more quickly. They'll probably have done the flooded route a few times before, got away with it, and we're seeing them trying their luck for the last time. Floods are one thing, but the fords featured are ancient ways left open deliberately to allow the local farmers to move vehicles and livestock at their discretion. The fords aren't updated to bridges and the streams aren't buried in culverts for all sorts of reasons: financial, historical, for countryside management purposes, for the preservation of ancient water meadows, to protect rare flora or fauna, or simply because the local residents don't want things to change. Drivers know the risks and take full responsibility for their actions. It can be painful to watch, but that's life.

Older cars had the air intake on top of the engine, many newer cars have the air intake in the lower corner of the front grill. if you drive into deep water it gets fed right into the engine. If you want to drive in deep water buy a fording kit.

Lesson Number One. Water & Electricity do not mix Lesson Number Two. Never pour water into your air filter housing Lesson Three. Water does not combust. Lesson Four. Never use your car as a substitute for a River Cruiser. Complying with these simple rules will save you copious amounts of time and money.

Not sure which is more amazing to me as an American: that you just let your rivers flow right over the roads vs. building a bridge or a culvert, or that someone actually has a minivan with a Diesel engine. That people drive where they shouldn’t doesn’t amaze me though; we’ve got our own idiots.

Most of the time they’re not rivers. Not worth the expense to engineer a bridge. Small roads originally used by pack horses and sensible locals.

Almost all vans - large and small - have diesel engines in the UK...
@sha1om
@sha1om 3 ай бұрын
@@Brian-om2hh That's what I'm saying. Almost no passenger cars in the USA have diesel engines; basically large vans and pickup trucks, and very few of those. VW was the only major manufacturer selling diesels in small cars, and they got caught cheating on emissions with them (the cars were programmed to detect when it was being plugged into an emissions tester, and temporarily detuned the engine) and most of those got bought back. In 1978 GM introduced some small diesels based on beefed up car blocks, but they sucked so mightily that nobody bought them and it scared them off ever after. I wish they'd sell more of them here; my dream car would have been the VW Touareg with the 10 cylinder Diesel, but that was a $14,000 option over and above the cost of the car itself, and they didn't sell too many of them.

It amazes me how few people know how to cross deeper water or think about where their air intake is. Most of these could have made if they’d just followed simple proceedures.
