Human habitations have changed form and style in congruence with the evolution of mankind. Our immediate challenge in terms of physical space due to rising shortage of land has led us once again to the threshold of redefining our dwelling. Here are some of the most interesting floating structures, a possible abode for our future generations

A great futuristic idea that is feasible & would become necessary in the not distant future due to rising sea level & choking of mega cities. These structures would be mostly GREEN in nature.

exactly, one of the chief scientists that studies population said you can fit the entire world population in La. So yeah, there is no shortage of land. Most countries have tons of unpopulated land. The only time we would have a "population problem" if the entire world were like that planet in Dune, Giedi Prime, which is completely cemented over and filled with skyscrapers.

I think this is a good step in a new direction. If they can make it safe and secure, it's better to build these kinds of cities than to continue chopping down our oxygen supply for a growing population. Besides, no matter where you live, natural disasters will get people.

Unfortunately, just because we inhabit so little, doesn't mean we can just go fill up all of the land. Most of it is needed for food production, and if we were to get around that problem, then we'd have to level every forrest to be able to use all of the land, and the atmosphere would pretty much be unbreathable. Still, I agree with the whole possibility of terraformation. It exists in nature, we just need to find an effective way of harnessing it.

Disappearing coast lands? Really. The only way that could happen is if the Flood comes again or all the oceans go dry. No boat required. I do enjoy the creativity.

no, it said this was in Bulgaria, im from there, and the only water we have is rivers and Black Sea on the east coast. This looks like it is on a lake, so the only thing we should worry about is too much rainfall flooding slightly... but we are not on an ocean, so no worry about tsunami and typhoon :)

@RyleyAshford Well.. I meant that such structures as those.. arks would require special technologies like reinforced, lightweight structure and stuff like that. Of course we have the technology, but they might improve it with the need of such enormous constructions as floating cities. The other thing is that in in one town in Poland, when flood struck all the poor people were moved to a hotel. Within a week they stole everything that wasn't screwed to the wall.

For all of you people who perfer to stay on the ground, I do to but think about it. The land will enevitably be destroyed because of global warming and things like that but this way, we will be able to travel to go anywhere (not counting the destroyed land) We'd be able to discover new things. I for one am very open to the idea of traveling on the water would be incredibly fun! Planting trees may work for a few years, then what?

Well, I see your point. But we are far from that point as we are now. If plants stopped producing oxygen, there's still enough to sustain us for 1000 years, anyway. The thing is, population will level itself out. Until the last 200 years, the population was around 1.2 billion. In 200 years, it reached 7 billion, because we had the means so sustain more life. If we ever do run out of space, then we adjust.

Making an underwater hotel is a cool idea but if there was a household accident, it wouldn't be pretty. I don't see any water airlock thingies to keep a full blown flood from happening. Here I am, sitting in front of a laptop in early 2012 and I still don't see any news articles on the grand opening of that potential mass lawsuit. There are too many structural flaws with these things to count.
