Not ashamed to say this made me cry, with both happiness for you and my memories. My great grandfather still lies at Gallipoli killed July 1915 aged 38yrs. He faked his age as the recruitment cut off was 35yrs old. Mentioned on the Helles memorial Royal Scots Fusiller. x

Had a bit of dust in my eyes after watching Richard. Ihad my Grandfathers WW1 medals, my dads WW2 and his brothers, sadly over the years with moving they got lost. Lovely people those 2 that returned your Grandads medal.👍

What a fantastic gesture to return hiss medal to you. My Grandfather also served in Europe during WW1 and fought in the battle at the Mause Argonne. Unfortunately, he died long before I was born, and he too never spoke about his time during the war. I was so touched by this video Richard, thank you for sharing.

What a fantastic story. Not only have you got the medal back where it belongs, it came via someone who is so nice and wanted to do the right thing and return it to you. It does show that there are some thoroughly decent people around.

Hi Richard, what a lovely story , my brother served in the royal artillery and when I was younger I used to collect old bottles and used to go digging for them in old dumps and hedges one day i dug up an old royal artillery cap badge amazingly it was in good condition I gave it to my brother and although there was no connection to him other than it being an artillery badge it’s a treasured possession and probably one of the best gifts I could have given him so I understand the importance and emotion of finding that war medal especially as you have such a connection with it.

Amazing. And what a lovely gesture to even hand deliver it to you. I can understand where you are coming from with this. My Grandfather was in the WW1. I don't even know where he served. I have tried to look up his war record but couldn't find him. I believe a lot of the WW1 records were destroyed. So there are a lot of gaps. My Grandad died when I was eight or nine. But I remember sitting there with his medals. And also his horse brasses. When I was a kid. It would have been nice to have kept them in the family. Unfortunately in the very last part of his life Grandad succumbed to dementia of some sort. He wasn't fully aware of what he was doing. And one day some chancer dealer rocked up when nobody else was around. And offered to buy a load of items off him. No doubt for a song. When my mum got home a lot had gone never to be seen again. Including the medals and the horse brasses. To this day wouldn't have a clue what happened to them. And that was back in about 1969. As you say to most people they have historical interest. But to the family concerned a whole lot more. Miracles can happen. Who knows the third might yet appear. Two is a good start.

Thanks for sharing this Richard. We will never understand what those enlisted men went through. My Grandad was gassed in WW1, but was fortunate to make it home. He also served as an army instructor in WWII. I assume one of my cousins has his medals.
