The history of AMG is based on motorsports. In 1967, the founders (Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher) had the vision to build vehicles based on Mercedes cars with such enormous power that they could also use them in motorsports. Therefore, the focus of this consideration was to transfer these motorsports genes to a street-legal vehicle. The "Black Series" concept was born.
The Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Coupé Black Series emerged from the Formula 1 Safety Car in 2006/07. The fact that it had to keep up with racing drivers like Michael Schumacher at that time speaks for itself. However, the car's fantastic handling on the racetrack and its unique look made the CLK 63 AMG Black Series one of the most charismatic cars on the road.
The CLK 63 AMG Black Series was produced from 2007 to 2009 and is a slightly heavier car than the standard CLK 63 on which it was based but is significantly quicker in all areas thanks to a newly developed rear axle differential lock with its own separate cooler, uprated engine to 507 hp, revamped transmission suspension and various other mechanical tweaks. As a result, the CLK 63 AMG Black Series takes just 4 seconds to 60 mph, and 100 mph takes just 8.8 seconds.
Mercedes produced 500 examples of the CLK 63 AMG Black Series worldwide; of these, just 25 were UK-supplied right-hand drive cars. The rarity, along with its incredible 6.2L V8 naturally aspirated engine and everyday useability, makes it one of the most desirable AMG Black Series models.
Our car is 1 of the 25 UK supplied, right-hand drive examples and finished in Obsidian Black Metallic with Black Perlon Velour AMG Sports Bucket Seats. It is a familiar car to us and one that we know, as Tim bought it in 2011, kept it for himself, and sold it. So it was yet another car he kicked himself for not keeping (there is a trend).
