Extremely happy with Matt's work, I sent him my busted Dreamcast and he got it working again along with a bios chip to allow import playing and LED light change just to make it a little more unique. THANKS AGAIN MATT!! Cheers!

Check out the Andonstar ADSM302 microscope camera for soldering. It doesn't record audio so you would have to dub over your voice but its more suited for the task.

Great vid, I have a DCHDMI and have attempted to install once, completely fudged it and broke the Dreamcast, even with plenty of flux and good solder, I'm just bloody useless, and I thought I could solder lol I still have the mod and another cable, just practicing on old boards at the moment, but still can't get that wipe soldering correct... Is there any advice you can give. It's difficult to get an installer in the UK. I would be grateful for any advice...

I suck at soldering too, my greatest achievement was to resurrect a broken snes that didnt turn on so I desoldered the fuse from a snes that only showed black screen when powering on and it felt great to get working snes, but I ended up melting some internal plastic and frying my fingers, but Im ok.

Just sent you an email. I'm interested in modding a few dreamcast units. So the DCHDMI and GDEMU will work with model 0 & 1 Dreamcasts correct? As for my Mnemo USB Gdroms my units are version 1 and will need the usb port to be turned over but this shouldnt be an issue for you.

What heat did you use for the ribbon cable? I can do caps and done a few other mods but flex cables I need more practice. The Wii dual cable I ended up burning despite using lots of flux.

I run my Hakko Fx888d at 320 degrees Celsius for this. I try to make the connections quickly so as not to damage anything. If I don't like the look or have a bridged connections I will just wait a bit and let it cool off before coming back and trying again. Patience is key!

1:03:38 - Get a canon 70D (or higher) or a T6i (or higher) and a semi-decent lens. Don't need L series glass, but maybe a 18-135 STM or 55-250 STM. Presonally I like the 100mm Macro, but wit's less versatile

How exactly do you know where each capacitor is installed on the MB? I took a pic of the MB before I removed them, and I also tried to follow your installation in the video, but when I think I'm missing the capacitor for the CE503 space on the MB, near the 6-pin psu connector, and some numbers didn't match the numbers/letters of the ones you were using.

Question, everything was going well on my mod until I got to the ic206. The dot of solder disappeared and now I can’t install the reset wire. Any way I can savage this? There doesn’t seem to be any metal to solder to. Just a black hole left 😩😭

I ran into the same issue. I then just left that wire out. The mod works fine, so I just have to live with the fact, that I can‘t do a reset with the pad.

Where can I find a FAQ on the HDMI MOD? Where to find a honest seller of all that is needed for the MOD and where to send your Dreamcast to have someone honest to install it including cutting out the holes in the Dreamcast that won't take you money and run leaving you out of you money and Dreamcast? Also I heard or read somewhere or saw it in a video that some Clone GDEMUs cause a no audio problem with the HDMI MOD and would need to know how to identify which Clone GDEMUs are effected. Also if you have a GDEMU you need to add an additional mod in order to get that button that emulates changing Discs to work with the HDMI MOD? The HDMI DCDIGITAL Kit is out of stock at Black Dog Technology.

I'm not aware of any solution for what your wanting. However the installation and removal of the GDROM and GDEMU is really pretty simple. So if you really wanted you could swap them as needed to play between original games and ISOs. Or just pick up a 2nd DreamCast as the consoles themselves are still relatively cheap. Not sure if its possible but maybe someone could develop a way to use the modem port slot to house something for this. But I'm just talking out my ass and not sure if this is even possible. LOL. Nice work. I'd love to send you my dreamcast for DCHDMI Upgrade. I'm just waiting for dan to send me my kit in october. I actually had sent one to iFixRetro but it never made it to him and I'm waiting on USPS to find my console and send it back to me. I spent some good cash on this Mint Condition dreamcast I have on me right now. So I'm gonna be smart and send it with extra Insurance to cover the cost of the console and DCHDMI kit should this one get lost too.

Hi there. I'm just curious what temp do you have your hot air station at? Also what temp do you use to solder?

I'll give you some numbers but remember this is for MY equipment and numbers may be different for yours. Best bet to start low and work your way up. Aoyue 968 Reflow Station I run @ 350C and 50% airflow for most SMD work. As long as you keep moving and use kapton tape on anything you don't want to melt you should be fine. Hakko FX-888d I run @ 320C for almost everything (flex cables included) If I need a little more heat for dealing with big ground planes and such I will crank it up to 340C Hope this helps!

Flux = dendrite growth. Nte solder wire I dont even know how you used this ive tried it once and it didnt wick any solder at all similar to what I witnessed her cleaning the pads on the motherboard pcb.

CE103 and CE401 caps on my VA1 board started to leak. Console still ran but for how much longer before issues come up. In my opinion, it is always good practice to do preventative maintenance.
