Unbelievable NHL Wedding on a Private Estate Near Toronto | Sydney & Trevor

Every so often we find ourselves at a particularly special wedding. Sydney and Trevor planned an elegant and timeless celebration on family property creating a welcoming, relaxed and fun experience for their guests. Private estate weddings are a favourite of ours because they allow us to film somewhere unique with more personal touches. They give coupes the chance to be more free and customize their day, free to venue restrictions.
Filming weddings is always a privilege and when you get to film a wedding like this, it inspires you to keep pushing your creativity and pursue perfection. What about this day that was so special? It was the love, the story (holy smokes, those personal vows), its their family, hearing all those personal anecdotes and how they've all come together to form one bigger family. We loved seeing how Sydney and Trevor were so at ease with each other, constantly joking, laughing and supporting each other during some deeper emotional moments. We loved how they were vulnerable with each other and opened themselves up to really truly live the experience. Oh and we LOVED the energy of all their guests, who came out to support their friends and let lose when the time came.
We hope you enjoy watching their film as much as we enjoyed making it.

how do you capture those very dark night shots, its amazing and no noise

We bring along our Aperture 60x and spotlight the couple (often backlighting). We set it pretty bright as we want to keep the background dark, so we're actually exposing at quite a low ISO (I can't remember exactly, but that's the reason there's little noise).

Love your work as always! With the S5ii when you're filming a bride by the window for example, or the shot of the dress at 1:13 ...do you expose a bit higher and bring it down in post or just expose for the windows from the jump?

Thanks! I used to be pretty strict about now blowing out highlights, especially with older cameras as those overexposed areas looked like a harsh wall of white. With the S5ii I find the roll off is so much better, as well as there often being some details preserved that I can pull back, that I feel more comfortable blowing out shots a bit. So it's really a judgement call that I make on a scene to scene basis. If I'm not sure, I might get a couple of versions; one that looks better according to what I see on the screen and once that's exposed for the highlights, just in case.
