I noticed that you have a real passion about collecting certain types of coins. I like it just for the hobby. I have a 1941S nickel that you can have since you are collecting nickels by years in a book folder. When I'm gone, my adult children says they are not interested in old coins, and that they would only spend them. Let me know if you want it, and I will send it to you to put in your book folder for nickels.

Working for a supermarket for 23 years as a grocery clerk and a cashier I was able to collect many coins that customers used to purchase their groceries. In nickels I have collected a few 1938 PD&S, 1939 PD&S, many silver war nickels from 1942 to 1945 and a couple of 1950D nickels as well. I remembered this one customer had given me a roll of $5.00 in mercury dimes as part of a payment towards groceries. That was a big score. Thought I am retired I sure do miss being a cashier clerk.

I scored a 1938 Nickels S about 2 weeks ago. I didn't realize it was one until I double checked the date. I missed it because the 38 is basically in mint shinny condition and you can still see some step lines. I thought it was a newer coin. Not one scratch or any fading too it. It was a good find!

Very cool! A first ever coin find is extremely rare, especially if you have hunted for a long time. When I met up with two American coin collectors in Luzern last week, I did a coin roll hunt with them and scored a 10 Rappen 1894, which is a first ever coin for me as well! What crazy luck this summer has brought us all ^^

Nice find! I think it was the second box that I ever hunted that I found a a 38s in. I’ve found plenty of 38 and 39 coins, buffalo nickels, and even a V nickel, but the war nickels have been eluding me. Two boxes ago, I finally found not one, but TWO war nickels! (43p and 45s). I also found two 39p and a 38p. Just three days ago, I hunted another box of nickels and ANOTHER 43p war nickel along with a 2005s proof and...wait for it.....two more 39p nickels. Not going to lie, this hobby is addictive. I love the thrill of the hunt.

@Quin I expect this idea has been mentioned before somewhere 'down there' in all the comments (NOT gonna go looking for it!) but: Why don't you get a 2nd coin place mat, so you don't have to keep clearing and flipping over the single one you have? Also, if you keep covering your place mat with coins, and sliding them off it, you will eventually wear down the surfaces of it-they're not indestructible! Just a coupla thoughts. Keep up the good work. I collect coins too, but mainly for their silver and gold content, so mostly bullion type coins. Saying that, I DO have several kilos of both pre & post 1920 silver British coins (1920 was the year Brit silver coins went from 92.5% sterling silver to 50% silver content) from silver 'thrupenny' (3d.) to 'barmaid's demise' four shillings (so-called as Victorian barmaids oft mistook them for full 5s. crowns) & five shilling crowns. My fave silver coin? The huge 2000grain (480grain = 1ozt) of sterling silver Panamanian 20Balboas, that were minted from 1971-1985, like this one: www.chards.co.uk/1974-silver-panama-20-balboas-proof-coin/3357 I have about 20x or so of these!
@QuinsCoins3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I could use a second placemat, I guess I just want to use the one to demonstrate what a normal user would experience because most people aren't going to buy 2 of the same mat. It's true that the placemats can get worn down, but they are pretty durable, even against larger coins like quarters. I use the same set of placemats over and over again in my videos and they don't show much sign of wear. And that's cool that you collect silver and gold! It's not really my thing but everybody collects differently. Happy stacking!

From what I've discovered, less than 10% of nickel boxes are 1960's and 70's. Because of that, I've started hoarding them. At some point, they'll be hard to find, like all the 1959 and older. Also, I've literally found every nickel from 1938-2020 from coin roll hunting.

@noneofyourbusiness27503 жыл бұрын
This is straight from the N.G.C. website... "The practice by many collectors of acquiring fresh rolls of each date/mint issue was well established by 1938, and so it was that the 1938 S nickel became far more available to later generations than it would seem from its low mintage. Gems are plentiful, though perhaps a little less so than for 1938(P) and 1938 D nickels. This issue may be found well struck overall, though it is quite rare with even just five full steps. Most coins, however, show overused dies with somewhat eroded details. In rare instances these dies were aggressively re-polished, and this accounts for the few pieces certified as proof-like (PL). This was a recurring practice at the San Francisco Mint, and PL nickels having shallow details became increasingly common during the late 1940s and early 50s."
