To those criticizing this young man I doubt your forehand is any better. Of course there are minor things to improve on but the stroke is better! Good video and I actually tried this in a friendly match the other day and I was more consistent, loose, and fluid. Will keep at it. Thanks!

the arm is still very tense. The racket must fall in free fall to the exact limit point where the acceleration of the movement begins. See Federer, Nadal, etc their arm muscles are completely relaxed during the swing, until the moment the racket needs to be accelerated (naturally creating lag)

It goes back and forth with the forehandswing in this video. At 1.52 min (after the correction) it goes a little better, but at 3.24 min and at the end of the video the player falls back into the old pattern. His racket falls down at the end of the stroke preparation, causing the racket to stop and have no initial speed. The instruction to keep the swing short does no good. The player should keep his elbow higher and further back in the backswing, with the racket pointing upwards at an angle to the front. A forehand with a greater and smooth loop generates more speed!

I'm a bit confused--keep racquet head up as arm drops, which requires muscular tension, but then emphasis on wrist as loose as possible. Clarification would be appreciated.
@gravitytennis
@gravitytennis Жыл бұрын
Great question. When the racket head drops, the tension in the arm and a pronounced flex in the wrist are the reasons for the student's issue.

What he should say is to keep it up till it is time to drop... tip should be lower and both of thes Fhs have there place... my problem here is suggesting one was better than the other since both have valid uses

NOT ONE single person in the comments is suggesting... 'FOOTWORK, ' motor mechanics, before introducing the racket. Dude's footwork isn't going to get him to stop shanking. Open stances forehand?
@g10s
@g10s 11 ай бұрын
Good call... the legs unlock the stroke. The legs are the engine that ignites the angular momentum (rotation), and that's what actually swings or powers the arm and slings the racquet. So if you're not positioned correctly and able to load the outside leg, the shot will be mostly arm oriented. This coach is on the right track with the correct arm position and staying loose, but when they ramped it up from the baseline, it fell apart because the player was trying to generate power from his arm more than using the kenetic chain stating with legs on up.

Appreciate the comment. The big focus for that lesson is learning to substitute dynamic movement over pure arm strength as the source of power and timing, and we made a lot of improvement, but we have further to go, of course.

Why is the coach not working on his spastic left arm basic coaching
@gravitytennis
@gravitytennis Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. As a teacher, you have to choose what you teach first, and for me, developing a relationship with gravity and momentum is most important for players who squeeze the racket too hard (and end up with tennis elbow.) We'll absolutely address the left hand in the future.
@orangecoolius
@orangecoolius 11 ай бұрын
I agree. The left hand needs to finish high, not down at his side. Should have mentioned it and nipped it in the bud. This is why coaches often have beginners “catch” their racket. A really bad habit that can be difficult to undo.

First of all never criticize any coaches. Number rule. I have been teaching tennis for over 25 years and teaching adult is very difficult. It because adults are very stiff. As you can see coach is teaching everything right but this man’s left shoulder isn’t going back. Not rotating. I have exact same problem when I reach adult upper body is stiff. This is reason why I stopped teaching opening stance right away it’s not easy for many people. It’s take lots of flexibility and good ordination my.

Why would you feel the need to shit all over this guy? This guy is taking actions to improve his Tennis…he has recognized a need for improvement, is teachable and did make improvement. The video certainly held your attention for its entire duration which is telling…what are some elements if your own forehand that you want to improve on? Maybe focus improving your own game rather that waste your energy with spitting venom at something for which you activity sought.
