It seems there's a bonding material added like latex sbr so cement mixture can stick to styrofoam beads strongly making them more waterproof.
@fauxrock

Even if you applied some bonding agent additive or any attitude frankly you would still have the problem of the Styrofoam itself being very porous and therefore you would have porosity where and you would not have waterproof material… Just saying

Cement paste all by itself will bond to the Styrofoam beads adding an admixture like a glue will also enhance that but yet you still have porosity in the Styrofoam which creates veins of traffic for water to permeate through the matrix of the mix

@@fauxrockwow thank very much for taking your time to reply. I will be checking out your video. And Thanks for that formula, it will make a great base. The prompt replay is appreciated."Stored in a dry place " is a given for cementitious material. I fail to understand why one would be concerned about the ambient situation when WET foam is already inside the bag.... my college level chem, and my cement finisher background gets in my way of believing that. More exactly, the hygroscopic and hydrophilic nature of the material, and the fact that a 94 pound sack of Portland needs but 4 pounds water to react completely.

I generally Use a One parts cement to three parts of the Styrofoam beads….No sand… Keep in mind that you want to use S type cement As it contains lime which regular Portland cement doesn’t. As far as the water do you want to just add water until it becomes a workable mixture you don’t want it too wet because it separates the cement from the foam

Yes it's strong but is used only for non structural purposes. For example a separation wall. Industries are producing these stuff worldwide in huge quantities. It is easier to make than aerated Crete blocks. It's waterproof, floats, good weather insulation specially in hot countries. Styrofoam is the key material to build boat fridges and cold rooms. It keeps everything cold for more than 12 hours with using electricity.

The reason for adding line to the mixture, is to produce a stickiness so that the beads are bonded together with the cream of the paste . If you just use Portland cement without the lime, it doesn’t stay together real well, but in some applications like pouring avoid area, you don’t need the S type lime you can just you say Portland in Fact St., Portland is stronger than having the lime in the mix
