You won’t believe how well Knox, our livestock guardian dog is doing. He made a complete turnaround in a week. We’re filling the barn with hay.

Is your single wire polywire or hi tensil on the tpost and rebar

@@carterjamesranch thanks man! In that pig paddock it is a hodge-podge of high tensile that has been there for a long time and poly on rebar that I use for portability and flexibility. The original high tensile on this farm is on T posts Does that answer your question?

The dog seems to get along well with the cattle, that is not always the case. I must admit I am concerned if he gets in a serious fight especially with several coyotes that chain may put him at a disadvantage. I am certain you are making the best call you can for his welfare. I wish you luck in your efforts to balance keeping him home and yet not putting him in danger. Best wishes. 😊

I felt the same way. I watched him all day today and he was so intent on staying right with the sheep so I took the chain off tonight when I left. I’ve checked on him twice. He’s doing great. Right with the sheep. Barking at noises. Doesn’t offer to roam, leave or follow me when I come home.

I lost a 4 month old calf last week to coyotes. Got a pack on camera trying to kill one of my horses at 12:30 at night. My neighbor lost four calves this year to coyotes and I have lost three myself. The coyotes are killing anything that moves around South Carolina. I never see any small game anymore and I even see a lot of turtle shells now. I have neighbors missing cats and dogs every week. They are even moving into the city to find animals to kill.

If you get lucky enough for a large bird to pass over when you are with the dog, yell or bark(whatever your sense of decorum will allow) at the bird to train dog that some birds are bad birds. I don't know if those Mexican vultures that will kill new borne lambs have gotten far enough north to be a threat to you.
