I think you and I are very much alike. I am in the states and if I see a mower or tiller or anything with a small engine, I have to bring it home. My wife says its a sickness! Lol

For safety reasons, you might want to start a mower on the ground. Reason is, if that blade is compromises in any way as to brake a piece or even come off, it could fly directly at you hitting you in the gut/stomach. If it's on the ground and it comes flying off at you it could hit you in the leg. Both cases aren't good but getting hit in the gut/stomach is definitely a hell of a lot worse. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, just thinking of it from a safety prospective. Have a great day. Love the videos.

You are quite right rotatary blades need to be just as sharp as cylinder ones, its just the manufactures cant be arsed to sharpen what is generally pressed out. A quick inspection of cut grass will easily identify a sharp or blunt rotary blade as the blunt one will always leave a jagged edge to the grass. It also means the mower doesnt need to work as hard and results in less fuel usage :)

Didn't put the plug lead on......... sat in the car years ago when you could service them yourself (no computers or fuel injection in those days) wondering why it wouldn't start! finally spotted the new rotor arm on the passenger seat doh! 🤣🤣🤣

Same as me Martin.i always sharpen the blade and my grass looks great after a cut.at the end of the day it’s for cutting so the sharper the better. Cutting the grass takes the edge straight off it anyway.

Had the same problem with my mower creeping after replacing the belt. Turned out i was testing the mower without the belt guard fitted, once I fitted it it stopped creeping. Looks like the belt guard helps to keep the belt slack in neutral.
