It is hard to believe that I have been crocheting for over half a century, but since I started learning when I was 10 and I am turning 66, so that makes it 55 years. Something a very nice lady taught me way back in the last century, in 1985 to be specific is a different way to do the increase at the top. Instead of 3 single crochets in the same chain or same stitch, do a single crochet, a chain one and another single crochet all in the same place. This gives a sharper point instead of the round shape that 3 single crochets do and it tightens up the work, where 3 single crochets seem to push it out. There are several really fun patterns that create their own fringe the way you do with this and I love the ridge effect that going into the back loop that way gives me.

I prefer that idea too. Also when changing colours, the last "pull yarn through" actually belongs to the next stitch regardless of whether it's at the end of a row or in the middle. If you change colour before that last pull through it makes a cleaner boundary between the colours, which means you can make pictures like my 90 year old Mum does.

This is the first and only time I have understood Zigzig. You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for explaining the beginning part where you explain that when knowing the number of stitches you need for your project, 17 plus 3, the only time you add 3 is at the end. I have seen a pattern where the pattern calls for 12 plus 12 plus 12 plus two. I asked what that meant and someone replied "It's obvious what she means", I wouldn't have asked if it was obvious to me, perhaps you could explain it to me, please. I learnt to crochet when I was 42 and for the past 13 years, I've been building up my stitch knowledge via KZbin, thank goodness for KZbin eh! I also had an idea for making the fringe fuller, if you create a loop at the end of the row and knot it off you will create double the amount of yarn for your fringe.
@Meladora15 ай бұрын
I know exactly what you mean! My Mom might have started to teach me, but KZbin was my true teacher. There wasn't so many tutorials at the start so I think that's what really pushed me to try new things myself. I Love your tip on making the fringe longer, I didn't know about that! I am so happy that my video helped you learn how to do the ripple stitch, now you can make any ripple pattern going forward! You just need a increase peak and a decrease lower peak. Best wishes for your crochet journey moving forward ❤😀

Yeah, this is the problem with all zig zags. Best to make a small portion using the yarn and hook size you want to use and measure it before and after the zig zag starts so you'll know how much the multiples will shrink before you start. Best of luck to you!

I get my yarn in Israel and they get their yarn from all over the place. I stopped keeping the papers long ago on my yarn because those that live in US don't have access to it and I don't have access to the US yarn. I didn't try it, but I think partly how this works is because you can't see the other color very well from the other side, you wouldn't get that effect with double crochet's, they would be to tall to be hidden.

I’ve done a few lengths of this pattern and other than my sample piece (17+17+3) I keep getting left with too many stitches or not enough stitches. I just did 156 as directed in the pattern and made sure I counted extremely thoroughly (I used stitch markers and everything) and I was missing like 5 chains for the SC when I got to the end of the first row. I’m pretty new to crochet so I have no idea how I’m supposed to edit this to work for me. This is such a beautiful pattern and I really want to make it for my FIL but I’m not sure I will be able to 😢

@@Meladora1 Several of us have tried following your pattern using the video and the written. The math isn’t mathing. I followed the tutorial exactly-3 repeats of 17 st + 3 sts at the end. SC in 2nd st from hook then 7 sc. (8sc total) 3SC in same st then 8sc. Skip 2 sts. I 3 peaks, 2 valleys, and 6 chains left at the end. No matter how many time I frog it, I always am short 2 chains. Are you sure your valleys are skip two and you didn’t actually just skip one? I can’t think of any thing else that would make a difference.
