About 25 years ago, my dental hygienist and I got into a deep discussion about the dental industry which was sparked because of the controversy about putting fluoride in drinking water. It led to her telling me that for most people that take good care of their teeth, the only reason to have to go to the dentist is if you have a problem. We already clean our own teeth so why do people pay to have someone else do it? She mentioned how you can buy those hook shaped scrapers they use and clean your own teeth. When I brought up the subject of how I didn't like so many x-rays taken, she said she never understood why they x-ray perfectly healthy teeth and it should only be done if the patient has a problem. She said they do unnecessary x-rays because they can't make money on just the cleanings. When I used to get x-rays every 6 months, I mentioned that I didn't feel comfortable getting so many and they quickly changed it to one a year. Then when I said even once a year was too much, they did it every 2 years. So all those extra x-rays were unnecessary for all those years. She also said that the only reason they have people come in every 6 months is because the insurance will pay for it so they figured why not have people come in that often even if most of them don't need to since they'll get paid by the insurance. My insurance at the time was $56 a month ($336 every 6 months) but if I paid cash instead at the dentist office it was $220. I canceled my insurance. Now I have to state that I'm a fanatic when it comes to cleaning my teeth and probably spend more time brushing and cleaning than the average person. Brushing not only my teeth but the roof of my mouth as well as my tongue and all around that area. That's what really helps keep your mouth clean. It's not just about brushing your teeth but everything in your mouth. Of course kids will probably require visits to the dentist every 6 months since they aren't usually as diligent about cleaning their teeth as most adults. Having said all that, I appreciated my hygienist's honesty about what goes on when we go to the dentist and what we've been told all our lives through advertising and the dental industry. Of course everyone is different and some take better care of their mouths than others or have better dental family history than others so it depends on different factors.

I’ve cleaned my own teeth for 60 years(since I was 20). I use a feathered toothpick from CVS and a stainless steel dental toothpick. I Have all my teeth and have saved thousands of dollars. It does take a little practice but you’ll catch on in a couple of days. Save yourself $600 per cleaning 🖖.

Dental cleaning doesn’t cost much. She’s only being honest and trying to help by telling her viewers her review of this product. Myself as a dental professional too, am not happy that they sell scalers in drug stores. Even that can nick and create gouges on enamel and cementum that will cause further problems, more calculus easily forming on the surface of teeth if not correctly used. When we use it on our own mouth it can be confusing which direction we are moving the scalers towards. One has to be knowledgeable on the anatomy and shape of each tooth to know how to use these instruments properly.
@RhinoXpress
@RhinoXpress Жыл бұрын
@@melissasayoc979 yeah well tell that to the rest of the dental industry. One dental hygienist quoted me for 600 dollars for a cleaning. While the local one i go to now only charges me 75 dollars. So, you tell me what's going on here. This is the reason why the dental industry is considered the used car salesmen of the health industry.

Honestly I’ve had good experiences with these tools, I have had two of these kinds of cleaning tools and it automatically turns off at certain points if you are getting too close, it doesn’t really hurt because the tool is designed to stop each time it detects that you are close to hurting yourself, you mainly use it for around each tooth, the gaps (like a plaque remover/where you’d use floss/like a tooth pick/in the gaps). I don’t use it to scrap the tooth or to dig at on the front of my teeth as it’s not effective that way, if you use it that way then yes it probably will be bad for the teeth. I guess this is handy for those that can’t get to a dentist, as not everyone can get to one. I think it’s just about using it gently and watch a few videos of how to use it before using it. Don’t use it daily, use it once a week or once every two weeks. But if you are rough with this tool then it can be harmful so really take your time when using it. Using it for just 2-3 mins is literally enough for a quick clean as it’s so effective. Don’t use it for longer than a few minutes at one time.

Interesting. Here's the two main points; 1) It's dangerous. 2) It works. If it's dangerous and it works, then why not make a video demonstrating how to use it safely?

It’s kind of hard to explain how to use it “safely” because it takes two years to learn how to safely provide care to our patients. When we use manual scalers and ultrasonic scalers such as this we are mentally assessing dozens of things at one time to determine how to safely scale your teeth.

Third, this is the same type of idiot who claims - car repair should only be done by mechanics, computer repairs should only be done by certified technicians, and home repair should only be done by contractors who all charge exuberant prices, when people fix their own cars all the time, fix their own computers all the time, and can even build their own houses by taking the time to watch videos here on youtube, or the like..
