Unbox Something: Masterverse goes PoP in an Etherian Foes Forever Not-Quite-a-Box-Set (Part 2 of 2)

I’m still sitting on a few unopened boxes because I figured I’d save the fun of unboxing to share here on Brick Something. In this third episode of Unbox Something, I continue with the Big Bad Toy Store surprise shipment that completely by-passed my “Pile of Loot”. We looked at She-Ra last time, so now it’s time to look at her nemesis, the evil Hordak. It might feel familiar at first, but don’t worry…this time we pause and skip She-Ra and spend a little more time with this fantastic Masterverse Hordak.

I fully expected to seek these in the wild too. I know it’s repetitive, but I really couldn’t believe these showed up. BBTS has always lagged behind Target. Learned my lesson when my BBTS preorders for wave 3 Masterverse figs lagged months behind Target. (Wave 2 barely came through Target tho…deep pandemic era.) Good sign for BBTS moving forward? But yeah, these will be readily available out there someday.

It’s dirty. Mine was too. Dawn dish soap and a toothbrush will take that off. I love MOTU too. Although I did love some versions more than others no version I didn’t enjoy as much could “ruin it” for me. Every version is someone’s favorite.

Totally missed this comment. Thanks for the tip. Worked like a charm. White on a figure is definitely tough to keep clean. All my stormtroopers as a kid were grungy. Ha. Agreed about the love for the brand overall. As I said, it’s a great time to be a fan. I mean, today’s reveals are 🤯.

Got this guy on order. Just got to wait for him to arrive in the UK. I’m loving the design of this guy, personally I love the head sculpt and the pearlescent paint. The arm popping off seems to be a standard issue from what I’ve seen. Great review 👏hoping they do a Mantisaur for this guy to sit on 🤞🙏 I’m in full agreement, loving the Masterverse line

Loving the head sculpt even on the CGI Hordak. I may have to pop that head off and see if I can work it onto a Masterverse body. Ha.

That swappable canon-arm was a great design choice! I also never knew the Horde was a riff on classic movie monsters.

💯 I’ve seen reviews explicitly saying that it wouldn’t work on the left side. Pixel Dan’s review said that yesterday or Friday actually. It’s an easy-to-miss detail that took a little Rubik’s cube puzzle solving to realize. Yeah, I forgot where I first heard that. Likely it was on He-Man.org back in the day. Those Universal Monster concepts tapped into something “universal”, or maybe it’s just that they felt more innovative simply because they were early and far-reaching. Even the Metaluna Mutant is getting love with Super7’s upcoming release. BTW I see Mantenna as a slight riff on the Mutant.

Nice vid. Cool sculpt, but as you said, the head definitely needs a paint wash to bring out the details.

Yup. And a cleaning. Lots of little black debris, presumably from the black paint apps before it. It’s like when you have a white car or shoes…😤 But yes, the head, the shield, and other armor bits need some love to make them stand out.
