Is it overkill to use one like this that uses a wick and also distilled water? Or is regular tap water fine? Also, do you know if hard water or any of those differences in quality of tap water will affect the performance of this humidifier or any humidifier for that matter? I live in Southern California with very, very dry climate most of the year around. Now that it’s getting slightly colder I’m noticing a huge difference in dry skin and frequent nose bleeds. It has happened in years past but this is the worst I’ve experienced and it’s not even winter yet. I need to get a couple of quality humidifiers for a few different rooms in the house to bring the humidity up. On my hygrometer in the living room it usually reads between 27-35 percent. It’s pretty dang dry here, especially with the windows open. Thanks for all your videos on this. It’s really helpful. 👍

I don't think it's overkill, as it might be slightly better for keeping your humidifier clean, and your wicks will probably last longer, but it's not necessary. And the "hard" in the water, referring to minerals, would only be a major concern with a non-evaporative model, like the ultrasonic cheap ones

That's about all there is. The clear container, the wick compartment, and the fan will get dusty like any other
