British brand Hunt has released a pair of carbon-spoked wheels at a price and a weight that are hard to believe. Senior editor Chris Foster unboxes these carbon unicorns to see what all the hype is about.

I just received Hunt’s 36 aero wide wheelset a month ago and they are amazingly fast! They are a rim brake wheelset and the performance is definitely there! The only negative I can give after almost 1000km in wet and dry weather, is the brake pads supplied are not up to the quality of the wheels! The best thing is, you can ride them for 60 days and if you don’t like them you can return them! What more can you ask for?

What about the speed on flats road? Are they really slower than 50 hunt?

Is it the pads or the brake track? Considering these but that’s a worry point for me. I had a set of Reynold carbon wheels 7 years ago. Rode for two years but went back to alloy to have the ability to stop.

Great video Chris! I'll be interested to hear how you like them. Take them off some curbs and stuff and double check the durability for us! 😱

Bought a set of the hunt aero 33s and they are amazing. Very well made and makes the bike about twice as comfortable. Giant defy advanced 2 2020.

I have the Hunt wheels with carbon spokes, the spokes make alot of noise on steep hills and high torque (like an old pencil rolling across a desk type noise). I still really like them but be aware

Nice wheels. Thanks for the informative review. However, it would have been nice to see the side view for more than 20 seconds.

Given the lousy economy situation, its either they sell cheaper wheels for more revenue or be prepared to go bust for these small companies. Interesting times......

A little inside insight here: Hunt sold out of their first batch VERY quickly. The guy there said people were scooping them up at the peak of COVID-19 in the U.S. Fascinating! -CF

Any follow-up on how these ride? Curious about rim profile vs wind characteristics and the ride feel of the carbon spokes.

They offer a very comfortable ride. Very well made and appear durable.

umh how do you true this carbon spokes wheel? Umh.. Is it same as the normal steel spokes wheel truing procedures?

If you break a spoke where do you get one at? Locals shops dont have carbon spokes on hand usually.

The wheels come with spare spokes, about 6 I think. Bought a set of hunt aero 33s last week and the spokes are in the box.
They dont seem very light at 1510g. I have built myselfe a wheelset with Farsports 50mm tubular carbon rims (rim brake, 410g per rim), DT Swiss 240S 20/24 hubs, Aerolite spokes and brass nippels at 1450g. With aluminum nippels they would be about 30g lighter but less durable. Pricepoint: ~750$

Problem is that you are comparing a tubular rimbrake rim with a clincher/tubless disc rim/wheelset. Check the weights that enve and zipp claim for their wheels in the same bracket. Zipp 404 NSW (4mm deeper rim) : 1690g claimed by zipp. Price 3200$ Enve Ses 5.6 (9mm deeper rear rim) with enve alloy hubs: 1553g claimed by Enve, price 2550$ Thing is, both the zipps and the enves is loads more cash for the wheelset. So Not that heavy :-)

Inagine comparing tubular wheelsets to tubeless-ready wheelsets. 1450g for tubulars doesnt wven seem that good
