i actually live a 5 minute cycle from Cuttlebrook koi farm so I have seen inside many times. But I never get bored of seeing the amazing fry they produce, so cool.

That’s very convenient. Couldn’t agree more they produce some beautiful koi 👍

I loved how they all came rushing over towards you when you approached them. Be good to see how their colours develop too.

I was looking into trying koi last year around sept, and came across these fry deals... totally forgot and now its fry time again 🙃 wish i remembered that earlier this year. with that being said i breed breaded ? lol lots of fish in my time as in tropical and normally just give them away... out of say 1,000 how many do you think will survive in the grow out ... ready to be plopped in the ponds for next year? as i don't know a 1,000 people with ponds 😆 actually i don't know anybody so that's my biggest concern being left with 1,000 fish is quite a lot. i really know diddly squat about the koi names and such... what's the red and black bodied koi called, there stunning fish and have great side profiles
@UkKoiFish8 ай бұрын
Well ideally around 900-950 could survive as they are already past the most dangerous ages with are from birth to 1 month old where most fry die. In terms of rehoming I have many people local who will take 20-40 fish each so I never really have and issue but it depends on the location you are in Red and black koi are called hi utsuri red and white are Kohaku

Nice video. I think your videos will be much more watchable if you get a different background track that is less repetitive. 😀

Hi thank you. Thanks for the advice I’ll change it up in the next video.

Are koi essentially common carp with melanin mutations? Bred over time to look a certain way?
@UkKoiFish8 ай бұрын
Yes pretty much they were carp originally kept in rice farm fields as they contained water and some developed colour. So rice farmers bred them together over and over and overtime we ended up with the modern koi . Although the strain of “common carp” they originate from is a fairly different Asian version of common carp.

Cuttlebrook koi fry are among the best English koi you can get. Which begs the debate are they English koi bread from Japanese parents or because they are bread from Japanese parents makes them Japanese? Anyway great to see what your getting up too.
@UkKoiFish8 ай бұрын
Yes it is an interesting debate although you can always make the argument that due to there now being so many generations of koi at Cuttlebrook koi farm you could now class them as English as although they come from Japan they have been bred and raised in England over many generations which could mean they can now be classed as English . Thank you
