These fry are from Cuttlebrook koi farm link - cuttlebrookkoifarm.co.uk/
I really enjoyed keeping the fry from last year and seeing them grow into some really nice fish so i thought i would do it again so here we are with another 1000. I have definitely learned a lot from getting the last thousand as this time only a handful have died so far which is a lot better than last year.

I remember your comment last year when you unboxed your 1000 fry "I'll be lucky if I end up with 10". It looks like you've ended up with a lot more than 10...! I really like these videos with the fry. Please give us loads of regular fry updates on these fry and also last year's fry.

I will keep going thru all of your lovely Videos and I am sure I will probably find one that covers that topic as well 😉. Thanks again and keep the Videos coming! They are Great!!!

Float the inner bag (without opening it) inthe tank until the temps equilize, and then dump them in the net.
@kevinaugustsson2202

It is important to get them out of the water as soon as possible after you open the bag. This is because the water is full of ammonia, but as the fish deplete the oxygen in the bag the pH will drop making the ammonia less toxic. However as soon as you open the bag oxygen will rush in raising the pH making the high ammonia concentration more dangerous for the fish .

it is more important if you acclimate the water first before putting the fish in the tab. the fish may get shocked from sudden water temp change

1/2 degrees is not problematic at all, they aren't aquarium shrimp lol. Koi are hardier than most people in this comment section. Kevin is also spot on, the bag is toxic before it arrives, once you open the bag the counter starts ticking. Keep the fish in the bag for 1 hour ( whilst open ) and you will see significant change occur to your fish. ( weird spastic movements in swimming, jumping, rubbing against stuff )

No need to float the bag but the minute you open the final plastic bag all the toxic ammonia floods the water. They need to be transferred immediately to fresh water. These guys were left in toxic water way too long.

One of the best informative videos i have seen. Being on a state pension and stuck in the house for whatever amount of time I thought I would look at fry and growing on my own koi. Money was the main thing cheap as possible the answer. So got an 80 lt plastic storage container £12. An outdoor dustbin £14 filled it with water and cheap kitchen sponges £9 throw in a small pump £19 and fit two lengths of small tube - pump to container and container to bin change half the water in the bin twice a week. Next the fry not a lot just a few 150 in total including delivery £40 shipped at 5pm Wednesday arrived next day 11am great I thought from the south coast to Northumberland. Not a single dead one and here we are now 9 weeks on and still not a loss. Time now to think of the next step. Alan

It sounded like you were saying you had a lot die after you got the koi last time. If that is what happened maybe this will help or help others in similar situations- When fish have been in a bag of water awhile and you open the bag, the CO2 from the water comes out and that causes a dramatic shift in pH which kills the fish. You need to float them in new water so they slowly come to temp (a degree an hour is what I remember) - before you open the bag. Then when you do open the bag, they can go straight into the new water.

@Adam Julyan, I heard that you can buy UVB/UVA light that can help colour enhance arowana. Albeit this tends to stress fish out if turned on for too long. While you still have them in this net. You could try have such a light fixture turned on for half an hour a day(An hour when they are bigger). See if you can 'tan' them a little bit over their grow period. See if that helps you identify fish you like but also for your potential hobby friends. Since I feel like it might be a good way to approach it. Start early and let them get used to it. Have it on, for merely short duration of time. The tank is also quite deep, so if they do not like it. They can swim to the bottom.
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 5 жыл бұрын
I have actually thought of this when i was looking at increasing the lighting in the tank but as i spend so much time in the fish house ill end up with one side of my face sun burnt or something so i decided not to even go there. i might have tried it if i did not need to ever be in the room when its on but even then the light can damage things it would probably cause more issues than its worth. I want to ask some questions: 1) How much does it cost 1000 baby koi? 2)How much fish food do I need to buy for the time they grow? 3) How long does it take them to grow and become mature? 4) How big my pond should be in order to keep 1000 koi fish? Hi friend I don't know how much cost a 1000 baby koi but I do know the answer for question n°4) I have been told that a koi needs for itself 1000 liter so for a 1000 koi it's 1 000 000 liter pond. well in fact so they say but I have a 7000 liter pond and I own 16 koi and 7 comet goldfish that do very well, they have babies that I give to friends and families.

Next time you get a big order like that go ahead and pour them in the tub like you did but take a small like air hose for a bubbler and put it in the tank that you're going to put them in and let some of the water drain in with them in the blue tub for about 20 minutes to a half-hour it'll help the temperature get almost the same then transfer them on in it's the best way to acclimate them temperature and get them closer to what the new water is going to be like
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 5 жыл бұрын
That's how I killed about 200 of them last time as soon as the old water in the bag is exposed to air the water becomes incredibly toxic. It wasn't ideal that there was a difference in temps but it was best to get them out of the old water as soon as I possibly could. I probably should have let the bag float on the pond for a while that would have been the best way. Adam

Hi Adam, I know this is completely unrelated to this video (which is awesome btw) but we’re having big and sudden issues with our koi pond. It’s about 1600 gallons of water, ph reads at 8, nitrite and ammonia levels read at 0 (however I’ve seen your perimeter video so know this isn’t necessarily the case) but our nitrate levels, no matter how many water changes we do, constantly read at 100. It comes out of our tap at that level. This last month we’ve had 3 sudden deaths, our fish have refused to eat properly since September and have completely refused food for a good 2-3 weeks. We’ve had them scraped and there’s no parasites but no background life either. A few of the fish behaved strangely before they died and everyone we’ve spoken to has come to the conclusion that the fish are being poisoned somehow but our water quality isn’t what’s poisoning them. We’ve got no idea what’s happening and we’re scared we’re going to lose all of our fish.
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, This is a really interesting situation i don't come across any issues with Nitrate at all really I'm not even sure if it can kill koi but your levels are particularly high. Nitrate effects koi by reducing their ability to excrete waste effectively this usually creates a build up of toxins in the skin and making their skin quality terrible so if you want stunning fish with really nice skin keeping the Nitrate low is a big requirement. maybe some solutions could be getting a new filter that is much better at processing Nitrate such as a bakki shower. Don't do as many water changes as you are just increasing the Nitrate every time you add water you could also try using RO that would remove the Nitrate from the tap water. You say the koi had strange behavior what exactly was strange about it? Adam

@manydman
@manydman 4 жыл бұрын
1000 fish is usually 10 death in my experience ( 10 years experience ) you can raise all 1000 fish, the breeder handles roughly the same amount to raise. ( they start with millions and select down to 1000 fish ) To raise 1000 fish, we used to have tubs, 4 ponds and some pools in a commercial location. Roughly 250 kubic meters of water was used for the setups of those. ( got no pics, been a while ) Koi fry is really fucking cheap, especially in bulk. If you go to japan to buy some, you can have it shipped anywhere. If you order, you can have it shipped anywhere as well. We ordered twice a year with no problems ( netherlands, roughly same laws as germany ) For 1000 koi fry, I have seen prices as low as 150 euros. Beware though that only fry is that cheap and usually only what the breeder sees as "no potential". 250 euros for 1000 fry was a good price when I still worked in the business, a few years ago. You'd maybe get 20 nice fish out of it, with 1 or 2 being exceptional. The other 980 you sell for cheap or give to friends. Beware that my experiences are business experiences and not personal hobbyist stuff, prices are not retail prices.
