In this video, I'm unboxing 4 guitars from Goodwill. Future projects, parts donors, what will the future decide?
If you're in the market for a cheap guitar, then you should definitely check out Goodwill! In this video, I'm showing you how to unbox a guitar from Goodwill and find out if it's in good condition. Not only do I find a great deal on guitars, but they are better than expected! Thanks for watching!

An excellent video. I just recently purchased a Harmony 3/4 size classical guitar from a Goodwill Store in Dallas. It was well packed, and arrived in good shape. They description was perfect. It is currently at my local Luthier getting new strings and pick guard. Love your advice Man, but you're giving away all of our best tricks for affordable guitars!

I’m with you there, brother. I’ve got 5 guitars and two of them are projects. I love working on guitars and building guitars from cheap bodies.

Goodwill auction is a really good way to get well-made guitars for very cheap and 'flip' them after you adjust them. I can do all that and everything needed most setup guys can do.

I have frequented the local Goodwill's (2 of them) and Salvation army s (2 or 3 of them) since my youth (I'm 63 now), and not once did I ever see a real guitar offered for sale. Nope not even once. Lots of guitar heros game 'guitars' but never any real ones. Some years ago I dated a lady who worked at one of the local Goodwill's. When I asked her if they ever got any used guitars she said yes, about a couple every week. I asked why they didn't go for sale in the store she laughed and said, because one of the workers always claim them before that could happen. Mystery solved.

I have to add that I am also a proud owner of a Goodwill auction guitar. I saw this Ibanez RG120 w/ a very nice Road Runner soft case. I put in a bid just for the kicks and figure that someone would out bid me. Well to my surprise that did not happen. Although It wasn't a 20 dollar guitar I felt like $64 was still decent for what turned out to be a like new guitar. I open the compartments on the bag and to my surprise there was a vast array of case candy items that were in all valued as much as my purchase price. Goodwill find!

I love it. you've got the right idea. most guitars like that can be turned into good players with just a little TLC. too many people have fallen for the idea that you can only have a decent guitar if you pay a lotta money. I'm constantly amazed by the quality and playability of "cheap" guitars. my idea of an expensive guitar is one that costs more than $100. you da man!

Ahhh so YOU'RE the guy out bidding me all the time. Just kidding, and agree 100% on the packing and shipping, kudos to them. One that I picked up a while back was a Giannini Classical. Came in the original case, it was in tired shape, but I enjoy rescuing them. This one, in the case, was the previous owner's OLD pipe, a bag of OLD pipe tobacco, and a little notebook, of things he'd done or had done to the guitar over the years. You just never know what you'll find in the case or gig bag.

The downside to buying guitars from Goodwill auctions is that they gouge you severely on shipping (and handling in some locations). I try to limit my purchases to my local San Diego Goodwill, even though Orange County has a better selection of guitars at any given time. THEY charge handling even if you come pick them up! Anyway, I bought an identical Behringer Strat copy from them to sell on ebay, and I'd have to say it is every bit as good as a Squier Strat (or whatever they call them now), as I'm 99% sure they're all assembled in the exact same Indonesian sweatshop by odd-fingered 10 year olds.

I’ve shopped goodwill often for guitars. Hard to find a deal anymore. Just when you find one that looks promising, the shipping fee is way too expensive.

Quell Coincidence! I had just won a bid at Goodwill before you posted this. It is a 2014 Epiphone Les Paul Junior. I did not think I would win the bid. $76 plus shipping, which was significant because I am in San Diego and the store was in Wisconsin. I can confirm they pack for shipping really well. At least the store I bought from did. The problem I had was the guitar has no mounting plate for the neck. So the screws are in there "raw" and the top two are stripped. This means the neck pulls away from the body. So it will not stay in tune and is really not playable. Mulling over what to do about this. Currently finding out if I can just return it and also what would be involved with fixing it up. Once I get all the numbers together, I will decide. I am not so sure I got a good deal if I am going to have to spend $200 to get it playable. I am not at the level to repair it myself. What do you think? I do like the sound of the humbucker. Its not a Pearly Gate, I think its mid-quality from what I read. The total cost of the guitar with shipping and other fees was 127. I have no idea what these guitars are worth. I suspect I could have bought a clean used one for what I am going to end up paying in total for the same $. Thoughts? Thanks in advance from this subscriber for any input you have for my situation.

If I understand your situation correctly it's not a hard fix. You can get a new generic neck plate on amazon for around $10 and I've seen Epiphone plates on ebay for not much more. The right way to fix the neck would be to drill out the existing holes and fill with a dowel and re-drill new holes. But honestly, some toothpicks and wood glue will fill the holes just as well and give those screws something to bite on. Just take 2-3 toothpicks per hole, glue in and break them off flush. It will keep that neck on tight!
