Idea: Premium 8 string guitars should come with a boost/eq circuit built in to the body. Was just thinking about how when andrew turns on the boost pedal it goes from unintelligible flub to actual articulate notes. Carving out low end pre-amp is basically essential if you wanna actually use the lowest string, even on cleans. Pretty common on basses to have electronics built in so including them in 8 strings wouldn't be too much of a stretch I think.

I bought a PRS Mark Holcomb SVN from sweetwater and it was absolutely unplayable out of the box. Nut had tool marks in it, cut so deep that all strings buzzed, the binding was fucked up to hell and back as well. I had TWO replacements inspected before being sent out, since the first one "passed the 55-point inspection", and BOTH REPLACEMENTS were bad as well. One replacement had to go back to PRS... I ended up going with a Schecter Toxic Venom 7 String Multiscale. It's fantastic, and I'm holding it right now. Never buying another import PRS

You might be lucky if you try to get a Harley Benton or an Agile, but I have no idea about how good is their quality control.

Agile and Legator both make some pretty affordable 8 strings. They do have a bit of a reputation for sometimes having iffy QC in the past but it sounds like they've cranked down on that more recently. With that being said, my Legator Ghost played absolutely perfectly right out of the box. Though granted i did spend a grand on it so they're not likely to mess up an order like that.

How did you find these schecter branded pickups in comparison to say the lundgren or fishman pick ups i've seen you use?
