I know what backing tracks are and use them to play live. However, if a band performs without guitar player and bass player and replaces them with tracks, I’d rather they cancel the show.

i totally get it and its "ok", not really against using it of course. i just want to take the oppositions and argue a bit. 😅🫢 mhm 1. so get your self a keyboarder shooting the samples, another guitar for the ambiences (or a keyboarder that makes way better ambiences). and then youre really live (if you can hold the tempo without metronome, even better. without that you're not even ready to go live imho) "if you CANT EVEN PLAY without backtracks, youre "not an authentic live band", if you need technical crutches" 🤷🏼♂️ i just wanna point out that this feeling, will always be somewhat around in the audience.. since they can see and hear it (cool... but what do they sound without, clicktracks, samples, pcs, ai?!), etc. ...) people underestimate the beauty of inprecision of human, what makes music really live wait couple of years, it will turn back to that here and there i think. its doable, we made progmetal for years without backingtracks. just practice. (i know even meshuggah uses clicktracks .. in case of Meshuggah, thats ok, if you know what i mean. but your sound is waaaaaaaaaay easier) have you ever seen an orchestra with backing tracks? 😊 and they, are still around since a long time. the imperfection is key. else, hire a dj with some insrumentalists, that maybe play, maybe not, audience might not be able to tell the difference.. like in cheap pop

I’ve always loved superior drummer 3. Being able to have each drum, cymbal, etc. has its own EQ along with the mics and placement. Ez mix is great for demos but the more I go forward as a songwriter/producer, it can become way more of an interference after I have found all my effects and plugins. So yea, if you’re a beginner trying to see what some things are doing, great. Or if you really don’t want to deep dive as a producer.

I am being VERY honest I have a Tonex for almost 1 year. I am tired of this, I spend hours, days by setting my presets, pedal, software. I would even condider swap it for a Tank G

I'll never forget Meshuggah's first tour with everyone using in-ear monitors in 2012. My mind was blown. There were no count-ins. Every song was just exploding out of nowhere and I had no idea how they were doing it. I got home that night and went down an enormous tech rabbit hole. I got custom molds made and have refused to play without a click track since then.

Sounds great with the clean tone too, always wondered about the pickup position.... The strings dont wiggle too much near the bridge, and maybe it makes the tone cleaner !!! 🤘😁. Wow , no tremelo bar??

Thank you for this! I loved this breakdown. Can share what hardware you use for your IEM setup and also the routing? The FOH isn't mixing a stereo out of the backing tracks are they? Or do they mix each (prod/bass/guitar layers) individualy?

I’m okay with using click tracks but not so much on backing tracks of guitar parts that we can’t do live. Our rule in our band is if we can’t perform it live then let’s not put in the recording. It’s pretty lame to use a backing just because you can’t do live what you are supposed to do.

I love that bridge and wish more companies used something similar. I like the feel of a Floyd but I always block them, so it’s perfect. Also, you have to get some locking bridge guitars so you can come at these videos with a little more expertise with something similar. Really comes off as uninformed about an entire selection of guitars.

No dude you need a live monkey holding time, you need to hire a synth player, an orchestra and any other instrument. Backing tracks are cheating you need every singular instrument on your stage

To my ears, the M80M sounds a bit more defined and clear. Maybe due to the pickup position and the scale length. About the bridge piece ... Well, I never really got why this was done like this. Maybe is it a request from Fredrik and Mårten.

I’m in a technical death metal band, and have been in prog and deathcore bands since right before (around 08-09 when my first actual band started playing legit national shows) the ubiquitous inclusion of a Mac book in every bands set. I was lucky enough to see the state of the scene before and after from both sides. Bands for the most part ALL sound at least good ( albeit extremely predictable and boring but that’s a whole other conversation) which is something you can’t say from the prior period. So many other wise legit bands would play completely off time, sets would sound thin because they would be missing alll the frills that come with running tracks and a click, it’s definitely been a net positive for the person in the audience’s listening experience, however i think something that’s not talked about enough is how much more expensive this hobby has become, and how prohibitively expensive it’s become for extremely talented young musicians to start a band and sound on par with there peers. I was lucky in that my first band was able to get up on a stage and still sound great, simply because we had an awesome drummer to hold everything down, even tho everyone was playing starter half stacks (think spider 3’s and peavy valve kings) and not be completely over shadowed by bands with more money. Now, trying to complete for peoples limited attention span has become less about getting 5 guys in a room together and fine tuning a set list 2 times a week for 6 months, to basically who has the most expendable income to afford tracks and an in ear rig. I know I sound like a boomer, but I feel like the entire extreme music industry kind of lost the plot in this regard. With hard core being the biggest exception, and why it’s become( in a live context)the most dominating force in the entire niche musical world, because it’s still 5 guys with nothing more than a piece of wood in there hand trying to make you feel something and forget the world outside.
