I don’t think we’ve done any beetle unboxing videos, at least none that I can remember.. so here we go! These are gonna be clean-up crews for the roach bins, I wouldn’t consider them as “pets”. Regardless, I thought of sharing with y’all our new “additions” to the lair.

Maybe the holes in the sides of the deli cups are so that when the package is being shipped and be jostled around some of the oats will fall out for them to eat while keeping the rest clean.

Buffalo beetles. They reproduce quick and your numbers will explode. Happened to me. House them with egg crate. They’ll eat the frass, molts, etc. I got some one time and they bout took over my red runner colony. BUTTERFINGERS 🤣

Those look like my buffalo beetles. Not sure exactly what yours are. Only issue I have is they enjoy my roaches' food, a lot. I tell them they are supposed to be cleaning but they go right for the good stuff, especially the carrots. They're cool little bugs though. If they have opportunities to burrow in substrate they breed like crazy. The worms are good feeders for tiny tarantulas, I have found.

The oats are not food for them, it's to absorb any moisture. If I am correct then those are buffalo beetles. Had to google that and found the following: "Buffalo beetles (also known as lesser mealworms) are a natural way to keep your insect colonies clean; they will eat any decaying organic material. They help fight mold, fungi, mites, flies and keep odors at a minimum. They will not compete with your colony for resources." So that means you could've put the oats in with them and let it get wet and moldy... I guess. Oh well ^^ Enjoy your new 'pets' Also, butter fingers.

Been watching 3-4 random tarantula channels for a few years now, the sight of em doesn't bother me anymore. Still don't wanna touch one, but that's another issue lol.

By the way those containers with oats was prepared it looks like it was not for eating but to keep the air clean & free of odors developing during transit. Not only are the holes too small they are also too high for the beetles to reach and I doubt they could climb the plastic to reach a hole. I'm pretty sure the oats are to preserve freshness of the air, kinda like when people put an open baking soda box in a fridge. Google this: oats clean air
