You mentioned how video games could help with reading ability, and it’s true. When I was in the Spelling Bee one time, I was given the word fatigue. My parents thought that I didn’t know how to spell that word, but were surprised when I got it right. I told them it was because of Pokémon that I knew that word and how to spell it!

I think that almost everybody I knew who had the gen 1 games when they were about 10 and under spent the most time in gen 4. It probably was because our understanding of pokemon and it's untold mechanics (like EVs and secondary effects like thunder in rainstorm) were found out here. It also massively helps to be able to move pokemon into the next generation again as gen 1 and 2 were exclusive from the rest of the series until virtual console came out.

I wish the manuals came with all that info that the 1st gens did! Also, just fyi, Pokemon Black wasn't in a black cart for the aesthetics, it was because it had IR capabilities built into the cart itself, and that type of plastic is invisible in the IR spectrum. Any DS game with that capability uses the same cart

B/W's black cart is also in HG/SS. It's most likely for infrared communications, like in Mystery Gift there's an option for IR. However this was most likely used for the Pokewalker by most users on HGSS. Its also a great way to distinguish fake games from real ones.

Now it starts to make sense why they focus soo much in later gens on the tutorials, older games had a very barren tutorial on only how to catch pokemon and certain npc's had a 1 dialogue line mentioning a specific tip or trick, nowadays u can go 4 maybe 5 hours locked in conversation with npcs and told to do some chores before the game unlocks itself for u because you're demanded to perform every tutorial trick no matter what. And the absence of manuals in the cases and it's deminishing existence over the years is the main reason why...

I was an upsetti spaghetti when I saw that they stopped doing colored carts, but let it be until I recently saw some custom DS game cart shells (3DS games also fit in those shells) that were all colored and translucent, so I bought a whole bunch, naturally, so now my Omega Ruby looks as it should! I might buy a few more for my Gen IV games, but I'll keep my SoulSilver as is.
@nathankellogg26402 жыл бұрын
Oh the reason Heartgold, Soulsilver, Black, White, and its sequels had darker carts is for a specific reason. An IR sensor is built into the cartridge. You can even test if they’re genuine games by holding it up to a light. A red outline should be visible around the edges of the cart.

I wasn't speaking English when I played Pokemon Blue (had only English version), I had no idea it had any story at all… But when you talk about learning through video games - so many non-native kids today learn a lot of English long before they start learning it at school. I mean… English pretty much colonised the whole world once again via video games. Colonize me by these means anyday.

Not sure if anyone's commented this yet because I haven't found it but the reason that the Gen V carts are the color they are are because of the IR sensors in the cartridges. It...would be (too) easy to call gen 3 "my favorite gen" if I were to base it on my "enthusiasm" for the colors, graphics, and music at the time. But I don't think personal gaming/adult principles can allow that. Game Freak knew much better what they were doing in the first 2 gens, and even managed to make them connect with one another. pokemon games i owned was Blue, Yellow, Silver, Ruby and that was it really. I pretty much stopped buying Nintendo. Did own a DS but refunded it for a PSP. I did play a pokemon DS game but it was via emulator. cant remember which it was lol think my favorite was Silver. Didnt like Yellow. Was exactly same as blue in too many ways thinking back

The PSP is great, especially if you used it for things like listening to music or watching videos! I can't imagine not having a Nintendo DS though, it's probably my #1 favorite handheld console of all time! And I understand feeling that way about Yellow. It's changes were minimal, but still enough to entertain my elementary school self. :) Thank you very much for watching and commenting! :D
