You mentioned how video games could help with reading ability, and it’s true. When I was in the Spelling Bee one time, I was given the word fatigue. My parents thought that I didn’t know how to spell that word, but were surprised when I got it right. I told them it was because of Pokémon that I knew that word and how to spell it!

Pokemon Yellow was a post birthday gift, bought at Walmart. My brother got Gold for his birthday. Pokemon Ruby was bought at Target as something to play for a summer trip. Pokemon Diamond would be the final Pokemon game I bought (on release day from Walmart). Pokemon Moon would be the REAL final Pokemon game I would buy (especially from Walmart).

I think that almost everybody I knew who had the gen 1 games when they were about 10 and under spent the most time in gen 4. It probably was because our understanding of pokemon and it's untold mechanics (like EVs and secondary effects like thunder in rainstorm) were found out here. It also massively helps to be able to move pokemon into the next generation again as gen 1 and 2 were exclusive from the rest of the series until virtual console came out.

I wish the manuals came with all that info that the 1st gens did! Also, just fyi, Pokemon Black wasn't in a black cart for the aesthetics, it was because it had IR capabilities built into the cart itself, and that type of plastic is invisible in the IR spectrum. Any DS game with that capability uses the same cart

B/W's black cart is also in HG/SS. It's most likely for infrared communications, like in Mystery Gift there's an option for IR. However this was most likely used for the Pokewalker by most users on HGSS. Its also a great way to distinguish fake games from real ones.

I think in a bizarre complicated way, I don't just see this as a piece of the past, but almost feels as if I've been counting the years and months that past since the first game came out (maybe not literally, but something like that).

Hey Andrew, I've known of your channel for 7 years now and use to watch your content for a long time. It's been a while since I've seen some of your videos, but began to sit down and watch them again for the past couple of weeks and I feel that your channel and video game collecting has inspired me to keep collecting on my own time whenever possible. You cover some of the most underrated topics in collecting or obscure areas I may have not heard much about or never heard of before. Loved the GBA E-Reader videos because that is one of my all time favorite Nintendo addons! I found your channel when looking for E-Reader videos and found yours as a result because back then there wasn't a ton of coverage on the E-Reader and still isn't as much to this day. Felt like you did a fantastic job on your videos back then and still to this day! Keep making the great videos and I look forwards to what else is to come! P.S: Congratulations on the most recent fan translations!

Now it starts to make sense why they focus soo much in later gens on the tutorials, older games had a very barren tutorial on only how to catch pokemon and certain npc's had a 1 dialogue line mentioning a specific tip or trick, nowadays u can go 4 maybe 5 hours locked in conversation with npcs and told to do some chores before the game unlocks itself for u because you're demanded to perform every tutorial trick no matter what. And the absence of manuals in the cases and it's deminishing existence over the years is the main reason why...

I was an upsetti spaghetti when I saw that they stopped doing colored carts, but let it be until I recently saw some custom DS game cart shells (3DS games also fit in those shells) that were all colored and translucent, so I bought a whole bunch, naturally, so now my Omega Ruby looks as it should! I might buy a few more for my Gen IV games, but I'll keep my SoulSilver as is.
@nathankellogg2640
@nathankellogg2640 2 жыл бұрын
Oh the reason Heartgold, Soulsilver, Black, White, and its sequels had darker carts is for a specific reason. An IR sensor is built into the cartridge. You can even test if they’re genuine games by holding it up to a light. A red outline should be visible around the edges of the cart.

I wasn't speaking English when I played Pokemon Blue (had only English version), I had no idea it had any story at all… But when you talk about learning through video games - so many non-native kids today learn a lot of English long before they start learning it at school. I mean… English pretty much colonised the whole world once again via video games. Colonize me by these means anyday.

Great video, loved it. You always said you loved blue, and we can see a lot of blue-themed Pokemon games... except for Ruby! I really expected to see Sapphire there to match the others. You know what I just realized? When Pokemania hit USA in 1999, and Red/Blue was already 3 years old at this point (1996). And Then It was actually super convenient for Pokemon Gold/Silver to hit USA literally a year later in 2000. AND THEN us USA kids were forced to wait a staggering 3 years before Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire came out.

Not sure if anyone's commented this yet because I haven't found it but the reason that the Gen V carts are the color they are are because of the IR sensors in the cartridges. The reason is i want to finalize my collection and make some kind of Pokemon Altar in my room but its realy hard to find a complete packaging or even half complete packaging in a decent quality so you can display it. I started playing Pokemon right back with Blue Version. It's unfortunate that the prices of old Pokemon games have gotten so out of hand at this point, and that's it's especially tough to come across boxes in good condition. I wish you luck in completing your altar and hope you can find some nice boxes at a good price!

It...would be (too) easy to call gen 3 "my favorite gen" if I were to base it on my "enthusiasm" for the colors, graphics, and music at the time. But I don't think personal gaming/adult principles can allow that. Game Freak knew much better what they were doing in the first 2 gens, and even managed to make them connect with one another. Although it did reignite my poke-spark after 3 stagnant years since Pokemon Gold/Silver came out in 2000.

I remember getting Pokemon Ruby under very questionable methods. I stole my mom's debit card to buy it which I actually pre ordered it. It along with the anime became my favorite Generation of Pokemon because of the fact that many of my current hobbies I'm interested in I got into around the time when Generation 3 was happening.

Gen 3 was awesome! Hopefully you eventually paid her back for the game, though. :)

@@TheGameDisplay I didn't unfortunately. I was a different person back then. But I did buy the remakes with my own money though. I was really looking forward to them.

maybe they could make the newer games ACTUALLY difficult, and include a all new trainers guide. That is actually helpful Because sw and sh, are only good for shiny hunting

If I had been "an adult with money" in the early 2000s, I would have been nintendo's favorite customer. I'd buy everything from the original gba, to the GBA SP, to the e-reader, and BOTH pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. I remember when my brothers said it was dumb to have something like the e-reader : /

It’s so sad to me that I’ll probably never get to experience how much cool stuff was inside the older Pokémon boxes, now it’s just a cartridge with a manual holder with no manual in it, very disappointing

I just had a look at the boxes of my German copies of the DS Pokémon Games. Despite the boxes beeing clear plastic instead of black one, even the Gen 5 Pokémon games had a skot to put a GBA game in the case. And the Pokémon Diamond boxart doesn't have this glitter effect.

pokemon games i owned was Blue, Yellow, Silver, Ruby and that was it really. I pretty much stopped buying Nintendo. Did own a DS but refunded it for a PSP. I did play a pokemon DS game but it was via emulator. cant remember which it was lol think my favorite was Silver. Didnt like Yellow. Was exactly same as blue in too many ways thinking back

The PSP is great, especially if you used it for things like listening to music or watching videos! I can't imagine not having a Nintendo DS though, it's probably my #1 favorite handheld console of all time! And I understand feeling that way about Yellow. It's changes were minimal, but still enough to entertain my elementary school self. :) Thank you very much for watching and commenting! :D
