Dean you’re a true hero ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bought a KitchenAid Artisan at Costco here in Japan and while I was instantly impressed by its tank like build there seemed to be an issue with the speed control straight out of the box. Speed would be the same when on 1 and 2 and again on 8 and 10 leaving only 4 discernable different speed settings: 2-4-6-8 I just removed the back cover and and it took 2 seconds to realise that my unit must have been assembled by either a disgruntled employee or a sneezing chimpanzee as the top screws were visibly badly misaligned. With my steel ruler very much like the one you used I measured the left screw at 12.5mm, the right one at 8mm and the bottom one at 4mm ! Quickly rectified this following your instruction, plugged it in and now finally have it switching properly through all 10 speeds. Brilliant! If life ever takes you to Osaka (We’re hosting next year’s World Expo) let me buy you a few pints at Murphy’s or at The Blarney Stone. Cheers mate 🍻 🍀

Nice one. Glad you got it up and running correctly. Setting the speeds is probably the most difficult part of repairing them. How you liking the artisan. I'm loving mine, baking away ar scones, cakes, and pancakes.

@@deandohertygreaserI’ve used it 2 or 3 times a week for the last 3 months and even one legged as it was it easily tore through anything I threw at it, a lot of bread dough, whipped cream to make no churning rum raisin ice cream, cake and muffin batters and even mincing pork and beef cuts for meatballs and bolognese sauce as it came with the grinder attachment. I love it except perhaps the polycarbonate splash guard. Just had it knead dough for a 1.5 loaf of Hokkaido milk bread that is absolutely fantastic. Today is a good day thanks to you🙏🏻

I've got to say your knowledge on everything you work on is second to none. You're like an encyclopedia. They way you emphasize potential problems & fixes that aren't there shows your experience. Very enjoyable to watch. As a tradesman i like to fault find & repair, & youv'e certainly given me a new outlook on repairing my tools instead of throwing & replacing them.

My mother got her KitchenAid mixer soon after she married in 1955. She used it regularly until she died in 2021. My niece has and is using it now. It has had replacement brushes, cord, mixer blades and bowls over the years but no mechanical repairs. The white paint is worn thin and off at the top where mom rested her hand on the mixer while using it.

Funny… My sis bought me one for Christmas, a gloss black beauty. The wife just walked by and peeked at my screen saying “whatcha watch… oh hell no, don’t even think about it!” Tears, tears are falling I’m laughing so hard. One might get the feeling that I’m not afraid to tear ANYTHING down to see what makes it tick lol! She also said to be sure and thank you for doing this so I don’t have to hahahaha!!! Thanks Dean👍🏼👍🏼😉

In Canada we use the Robertson head screws for all our construction wood screws. Torx is becoming more common, but Robertson is still like 99% of the market here.

One thing you missed here was that in the head of a mixerhead where the motor is, the speed control pushrod is made out of plastic which is already known to melt. The pushrod on I used to be made out of metal antenna metal spring across it that held it away from the motor. Fortunately Mr mixer remanufacturers this part in metal and it comes with the spring.

"Place the head of one screwdriver against the pin and hit it with the handle of another screwdriver"... Proof, once more, that EVERYTHING is a hammer!! NB re: Robinson's screws. Ask any Canadian and they'll tell you they're the very best screw and driver you can buy. (Needless to say Mr. Robinson was Canadian!) It makes me wonder if KitchenAid is a Canadian company?

Another thing I'd like to purchase myself is one of those heated Ultrasonic Cleaner tanks the largest one I can afford because for big parts those are great and then you can walk away from that particular job letting all the parts to clean themselves and don't have to stand over the parts cleaner brushing parts for hours which takes away the hours you can be repairing tools.

Minor correction. Robertson has a taper, square head doesn't. You don't know what you're getting, when buying a square head now, as they might be selling you a Robertson, and calling it a square drive.. They cam out at different torques.

@@deandohertygreaser Thanks Brother as I plan on getting another one. I had a white one with the white mixer paddle and dough hook, the whisk was stainless. Mine never chipped the paint or leaked. I got to say that I would have redistributed that grease that whoever put that in there maybe they were on a factory line and just got to where they're just working it in there and they don't even care and they're not even paying attention but that grease did not look like it was put around those gears properly and if you want the thing to work more properly scrape it off of that area where the gears but hey I'm the kind of guy that would clean off clean off the outside of the tools repaint the lettering and probably wouldn't make as much money doing a repair job, but I do jobs like I would want them to be done for my own tools.

These things are just great tools to have in the kitchen! Alot of accessories are available that mount to the 'PTO' drive on the front - meat grinders, pasta makers, etc. I got one for free, from a pile of free stuff someone left when moving out. Have to buy the bowl & mixing bits but still cheaper than buying a brand new one - usually around $239. here in USA. 👍🏻👌🏻🍽️🥣🥚
