A good trick to get those prickly needles out of that storage area is to use a magnet , saves from reaching in a being poked ...hope this helps

She is a beauty! Those decals! So glad that you got a chance to bring her back to sewing efficiency because being pretty is nice, but being functional too is just amazing. You probably already figured it out, but I think the item at 5:27 is a single edged razor blade for a scraper knife. Thanks so much for showing us your makeover of this lovely lady. Take care.

Thanks and yes I agree, display pieces are nice but I find the functional things far more beautiful!

Dead-on... BUT not for scraping. My old roomate's mum taught her how to sew using a razor blade to cut the fabric. It was amazing (and kinda scary) to watch her just zip thru the fabric no patterns just a razor blade. Yikes!!

It's a beautiful machine. So glad you were able to get her cleaned up and working again. Next time, use a magnet to get rusty pins and needles out of tight spots. I would hate to see you get jabbed with one of those things. Looking forward to seeing the other machine.

I'm sure you've found the serial number already, but for anyone wondering, its at the front of the machine under the badge, stamped into the flat rim of the slot for the stitch length knob. You can just barely see the 6 or 7 digits (blurry) at 16:57.

What a beautiful machine! I’d love to see one of these in person. My mom got her first featherweight for a good deal when they said “it doesn’t work”. Got it home…the needle had been inserted backwards.

I also have a similar mashine and I found a serial number, which I found when I opened the mashine right at the top edge of the underside of the mashine. Maybe it is similar here. Well done by the way! Congartulations!

I just love these old machines. Loved the weights you used after gluing the wood. Curry, knives and sewing in one video. I have a Singer from 1904 which we picked up from a local charity shop. I also have New Stirling. We have looked this up online and cannot find any info about it. It has a bullet shuttle and the bobbin is longer than the Singer bullet shuttle bobbins. I love both my machines and have started to use them to make my vintage inspired clothes on. If there is anyone out there that knows anything about New Stirling machines I would be grateful for the information.

If you wanted to join the discord, the link is in the description, we have a channel dediated to vintage sewing machines where someone might be able to help. Otherwise I'd suggest looking at the vintage and antique sewing machine pages on Reddit and asking the question there. The people can be incredibly helpful!

Anche io ne ho comprata una in un mercatino. Ho fatto restaurare la base in legno . L ho oliata e ora la uso . Funziona benissimo. Quelle nuove in plastica no. Sai che puoi vedere l anno di produzione dal numero inciso sopra .basta andare su internet sulla marca della macchina e in base al numero ti esce l anno di produzione

I mean I normally go for singers but these ones are great machine to :D Unfortunately though the price of antique machines in the UK are pretty much scrap value. In other countries it might be different but half of my collection I've picked up for free

@@AnnabelleAndBensAntics Here in the U.S. the desirable Singer antiques fetch anywhere from $100-450 and up.

@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Yere i'ce had a lot of people tell me these machines can get very expensive in America. I think there so cheap over here because singer made so many in Clydbank and nearly all of them stayed in the UK making them rather common. The most I have ever paid for a machine was 450GBP and that was WAS a very rare industrial treadle machine that is still used in a lot of shops and factory's today. One the other hand most machines are either free of cost me about an hour's worth of wage.

Please don't clean these old machines with water. Water will often turn the gold colored decals silver. It is best to use sewing machine oil. If you must use a cleaner, it's best to use an oil based cleaner.
@AnnabelleAndBensAntics2 жыл бұрын
I did use sewing machine oil but to get the worst of the grime off I just give it a quick wipe so that I don't grind dirt into the paint :)
