if you are a yard person a quality spreader is a must. Scotts stuff is cheaply made. I use a 40lb Agri-fab but looking to replace it with an Earthway also

That’s a great spreader! I picked one up on Craigslist for cheap and it has served me well ever since. Definitely a big improvement over the scotts.

Thanks for the review! I’ve been considering getting one like that. I really don’t like the fact that it doesn’t automatically close when you release the handle. I’ll wait till you’ve had more time to use yours and listen to your recommendation after multiple uses. Thanks!

Lesco spreader is what I use 50lbs with a curb stopper put on it to control it from getting into flower beds. Absolutely love it..

On the how to with Doss, KZbin channel, he shows your way to calibrate the Earthway spreader. Also that little butterfly screw at the back is where you set that as a stop so when you pull it open, you’ll always go to the same spot every time.

I bought a edge guard Scott's spreader when I done my yard and it hardly worked. Invested in a eco rb60 and works great.

I have the 2600A works great for granular fertilizer (I primarily use Protene) and it was a huge upgrade from the Scotts mini. If you decide to spread lime, I would suggest removing the cotter-pin agitator otherwise you risk jamming/splitting the gear case open (not hard to put back together).

Same issue here on elite. Lasted 2 good seasons. Left side won’t slide open. The worst! Getting this earthway stat.

I bought one about a year ago. I like it but I noticed when the material gets lower in that Hopper it's really hard to get out bud a lot better than a Scots nice video Mr. Ferguson

I'm 6'2" as well and have used the same Scotts Deluxe spreader for almost 25 years. It's always worked fine but the handle is so low that each time I used it wasn't long before my back began to ache. Not to the mention my hand would start to cramp up holding the spring loaded release. In the last few years, I really started to despise using it. Over the winter during the off-season I bought a Earthway 2150 that has a height-adjustable handle. I have it at the highest setting and it's about 4 inches higher than the Scotts. On sale it was $300 which was difficult to stomach but full price is $400. But no more aching back and no more hand cramping.

Had that same Scotts spreader and always had issues with it spreading evenly. Mr Ferguson, don't destroy it, at least not yet lolo. Scott's, had an I still believe has a money back guarantee on their products. I contacted Scotts, and simply by providing a paid receipt and sending a particular part back to them, I received 100% of what I paid for that horrible spreader which I had used for over 2 years. For a small postage fee to return, in my case, the lever that opens the spreader holes, I got all my money back. I , THEN, had the pleasure of throwing that piece of garbage into my cities dump!

Thanks for the comprehensive review. I think I will take a close look at the Earthway. I looked at Lesco, and although I’m sure they work well, the price is a good bit higher than this one. I’m definitely done with the Scott’s Speedy Green broadcast spreader though. I also have a Scott’s drop spreader and it seemed to work better, but I only really used it for seeding and pre-emergent.

Yep. Lesco looks great, and I'm sure it's great quality, but I saw those prices and said "nope". Just not worth that much money to me.

I have been using a Scotts drop spreader, it's a piece of crap! My problem is I have some narrow strips of grass. Can you control the spread distance with your walking speed? I don't want to spend $200 and have to do a lot of clean-up every time I Fert.

I'm not sure what it is. I washed it off after that day, and it worked perfectly fine with nothing in it. Like it was just mocking me.

My 50lb Earthway has an adjustable handle for taller or smaller folks. I have found I have to play with the setting a little bit to get it dialed in right. The only other con was, one of my tires had gotten a tear in the tube and it went flat. Not really flat but the tire came off the bead. And with plastic wheels and a hard tire, I couldn't get the bead to re-seat. I had to spend $30 and have a shop fix it. Other than that, it's a great spreader for us DIY'ers.

i picked this one up to replace a Scotts drop spreader last year. while i do love the construction and operation of it....i'm still trying to get the "calibration" of it. i use Andersons products and if i follow the recommendations on the bag for this Earthway spreader it either drops too little (for light rate) or too much (for high rate). bit of a learning curve there. like you pointed out...with the edge guard on and setting the spreader to 13....i was hardly getting anything coming out and had to adjust on the fly.

Not really, but yes...in a way. I bought the original Scotts just bc...that's what Lowe's had. When I got into lawn care and it broke, I was given the same model, which broke as well. However, I didn't really take care of them. So yes, I gave the "upper model" a chance, to same some money. Same issues...even when I took care of it. So I've proven, it's not just lack of TLC, they just stink.

Scott' spreader are designed for failure!!!! The wire for the one sided feed always breaks, and the turner in the bottom of the bin breaks!! If I could I would send it back to teh Chairman fo the company and ask hi if he is proud of this product!!!
