Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig is not a novel but a memoir. I don't want to say more because I like going in to books blind, but I believe being aware its non fiction is essential so you don't set your expectations on it being another The Humans. Also as a BS in biology I Contain Multitudes is well done and informative for the general public.

Have you ever read anything from Tamora Pierce? She writes fantasy and YA. You should try the Song of the Lioness quartet, Wild Magic quartet and The Protector of the Small quartet. They are set in the same universe but with different protagenists. Starting with Alanna. She started publishing in the 80s and the books suffer a little because of huge time jumps, especially for the Alanna quartet, but as Tamora Pierce herself said. Harry Potter was a huge game changer as it showed the publishers that children and teenagers were willing to read big books. There is also the circle series, which is set in a completely different universe, where you follow four children, learning magic.

I think you would like the Discovery of Witches trilogy by Deborah Harkness. It has romance, but it's also fantasy, magic, and a school setting, but it's a historic university setting, which was really refreshing! Witches, vampires, daemons, and my favorite scene was actually in the lab discussing the genetic differences between the 3. Lol. Happy reading!
@leticiatoraci98555 жыл бұрын
I can understand this of being overwhelmed with so many books. I am fortunately at an age where I know what I like to read and it isn't a surprise anymore if I pick a genre I don't like and I end up not liking the book, the last book I just told myself to stop getting the wrong sort of book was when I tried to read "The Library at Mount Char" and definitely didn't like it. So I can already sort out the new stuff from genres like Horror, for example, that I know I won't enjoy. It gets less overwhelming if you buy only what has a fair chance of being your taste.

On the other hand, I'm slowly getting through all the books on my shelves that I hadn't read yet (I'm almost finished with what's been released in the Mistborn Series, and will pick up Way of Kings next) AND I've been utilizing my library more, so yay?
