The CPU voice was a part of the White Pawn app that I was using; the official ChessNut app does not have a voice to read out the moves. I'm not sure if you can adjust the White Pawn app's voice or not since I now use the official app.

I have been very impressed with my Chessnut board and its continued performance. It is able to transfer moves in near real-time from the board to online sites like Chess.com and Lichess, and all of its hardware works perfectly even after a year. The app connects to the board quickly and is very responsive with its online features. I still use my Chessnut Air regularly and also the newer Chessnut Pro board. In the next few weeks I'll be reviewing the Chessnut Air plus board which is essentially the Chessnut Air but made fully of wood (including the pieces). I'm looking forward to it!

Il y a à notre époque plus de choix et c'est important de bien comparer. Je m'étais renseigné également sur dgt peagasus nettement moins bien en terme de connexion internet, ou encore sur le ichessone ( non adapté pour moi dans le train, trop grand et moins de fonctionnalités), etc ....Je suis joueur et entraîneur. Svp quand vous aurez le modèle tout en bois, pouvez vous svp le tester dans le train ? En voiture n'est pas la peine je pense à cause les secousses. Hi Juan, Both sets have their pros and cons and which board is better depends on what you are using the set for. Personally I prefer the ChessNut Air set over Square Off Pro because it has better reliability when playing games on Lichess.org and encounters fewer move recognition errors than SOP because it has individual piece recognition. I have not found how to use CNA to play on Chess.com which SOP does allow. This is a bit of a disappointment simply because I play chess primarily on Chess.com. Hope this helps!

I'm really curious what hardware tech is used under the hood. Is it different from a DGT board?

Hello! The ChessNut is different from a DGT board both in price (DGT is around $700 while the ChessNut is $200), and size primarily. The DGT is a full tournament size board (5cmx5cm squares) while ChessNut is much smaller at 3.5cmx3.5cm. Both boards are able to save the moves you play on the board and both should allow you to play against online opponents, with ChessNut Air supporting Chess.com and Lichess.org gameplay. I don't currently have a DGT board so I'm not entirely familiar with the operating capabilities. Hi, I just received my Chessnut air board today. When unboxing it was smelling very bad, like a chemical product. I found it comes from the board itself, and the plastic embeding it was "contaminated" by the product at the origin of it, and bad smell was even stronger, more concentrated. After 15 minutes the bad smell is still there and I can smell it at 2 or 3 meters so I put it in the garage, and wait for tomorrow. Did you get the same thing ? Is it normal when unboxing ? Where does it comes from exactly ? and will it disapear quickly ? Do you know if Chessnut has any reference or standard relative to usage of toxic products in their board manufacturing ? I'm not talking about the electronic part but about the wood and every surfaces, do you know if they have any reference and procedure to make sure there is nothing carcinogenic or that can create allergy ?

Hey Dan! I'm sorry to hear that your board arrived with a strong chemical smell to it; my set didn't arrive with any odor. I also can't recall hearing of anybody else receiving a strong-smelling ChessNut Air board, so I'd guess that it's probably a manufacturing defect. Is there a certain part of the board that smells particularly strong? As in the checkerboard's surface, or the glue that holds the checkerboard in place within the wooden frame? I'm sure that ChessNut would be interested to know what is causing the odor so they can figure out what happened to the board. Did you purchase the board from the official website www.chessnutech.com/products/chessnut-air ? Sometimes third party companies can ship out products at a lesser quality than the primary company. For your questions: 1) No, my ChessNut Air did not have any noticeable odor 2) Any strong odor or smell with the board, pieces, phone stand, or carrying case during unboxing is not normal and I would recommend that you send an email to ChessNut to see if they can resolve the issue using this link: www.chessnutech.com/pages/contact-us 3) The boards are shipped from a warehouse in the U.S. if you live in the U.S. or from a warehouse in Germany if you live in the European Union area. @@ChessUSee Hi, I checked with support. It can comes from the paint, they ensured that they don'"t use any risky chemical but they will check with their factory where it can comes from. After 36 hours, the smell is much less heady and noticeable when approaching the board. My wife told me that now it's softer; it smells like a piece of standard varnished wood furniture. I hope it will disappear in the following days. I even tried to play to check if I can support it, it seems ok, but I need more time to ensure it does not create a headache after a while. The board is nice to play; it's an excellent experience. I hope this smell issue will disappear quickly and that I can keep it.

Hello, this board is not able to learn to play from scratch, however the Chessnut Evo does have a bot which can be trained based on games played against it or games imported to the device. Hope this helps!

Hey, have been using it. Mainly connected to the computer and it is great so be able to play more focused games. In one game It was a complicated position and I was able to get a "fuller" picture as the board was right in front. The player blundered a queen and It was easy pick up. And this was a 1900 rates player. I had already used a code prior to your video and my order was already done before my comment. But it was in my anticipation that I watched your video and was able to enjoy seeing full functionality of the board. The chess speaks for its self.

how is the traveling case usage?

I have used the travel case many times and haven't experienced any issues with it so far. One thing I did notice is that the elastic strap fits very snuggly to hold the board in place. This is great because it doesn't allow the board to wiggle around, but I'll have to see what happens later on when the band loses its elasticity. So far, so good (5 months strong). An elderly neighbor has agreed to help me analyze my games. He's not very tech-savvy and my algebraic notation is still slow as molasses, so this board seems like a great tool for us to use. Is there a way to control the chesscom analysis tool (or something equivalent) with this board? I'd like to set up a position partway through the game, then explore and append notes to the variations we discuss. I'd prefer to do this on my Android phone, but I can bring my laptop if using a computer is the only option.

I have tried to connect Chessnut Air to Chess.com but the apps I have downloaded to pair with the board do not offer Chess.com as a connection option. The best app I've found is called WhitePawn and allows you to connect your Lichess.org account and play games there using the board.

I did find this from Chessnut: "As we haven't reached an official agreement with chess.com yet, we can't claim that we support chess.com in the promotional video to avoid legal issues(Lichess has open APIs so no such concerns). You can play on chess.com with our product as shown in the video." referring to kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWnUlnlnetaLhc0 promotional video. There might be a computer app that allows the connection to Chess.com with the board that I don't know about yet. I can't figure out what app they used in the video.

Hello, In this video the voice came from the app on my phone rather than from the chessboard itself. I was using the White Pawn app and I agree that the voice is not easy on the ear. The voice can be toggled on/off or you could use a different app to connect with the board that uses a nicer sounding voice.
