Unboxing Gemini Jr & using 3D embossing folders

*I purchased all of these products and did all experimenting on my own accord. I am not affiliated with Crafter's Companion. Regular Embossing folders: 21:45 (2 clear cutting plates on each side of the folder)
Thin 3d embossing folders: 26:30 (Clear cutting plate, embossing folder, magnetic shim & Plastic shim on top, if needed, add the light rubber embossing shim)
Thick 3D embossing folder (Sizzix, Tim Holtz) : 37:30 (Plastic shim, Carbon Fiber thin shim, embossing folder, Plastic shim) For this method you will need to buy another Plastic Shim and Carbon Fiber shim.

When you are done with the Gemini Jr for the day, take your plates and sit them under your machine and that will help to keep them flat

PS. I am a senior living alone. You are sweet to offer us a card. I am definitely going to join your group. I am used to being alone sometimes but I could leave if I wanted. Now since I live in senior accommodations, no one in or out unless emergency or necessity. Like for groceries. I do “pick up” if I can get a slot. When I ordered the extra plates and the cover from HSN I got a really nice flexible purple embossing mat. Much thinner than the black one. I like it much better

Hi Nancy, I found on a video you put reg clear shem a cutting mat for sewing, then the other clear shem . That way you cut into the shem plate. Thanks Jan

I just bought the large GEMINI, so I could use it for the quilting dies. Haven't used it yet, as my quilt is on my list, but right now I am sewing much needed masks. I also make all my cards.

No they are too big, the opening is only about 6"

So, you can not use 5 x 7 folders in the junior, is that correct? Since the rollers will not cover the whole folder?

Yes, you can, you put it in slimline first. The plates are 6x9.

@@NancyStamps Well, then mine must not work right cause I sent it through slimline....it will not go lengthwise as it's only 6 inches wide and the length of the folder is 7 inches.

When I put mine through, the edges will not emboss as the center does...it embosses but is very faint.

@@maryax6139 if you are using a 5x7 embossing folder, you put it in top of the 6x9 plates parallel. Not perpendicular. In other words the "fold" of the embossing folder gets loaded first. If it is not embossing well then you need to add extra shims. Maybe try base plate, magnetic shim, embossing folder with paper and then top plate. If it is a 3D folder then you need a different sandwich.

Yes, it's usually the cheaper ones that don't lie flat anymore. Frame dies too.

Mine warped the first time I used it. I soaked them flat in a casserole and poured boiling water. The heaviest thing in my house is a chain jar which I put on top of the plates. It did straightened then out. I store them on my craft table with the jar on top when not in use.

Wow, you didn't run the metal shim through on that Sizzix 3D folder before saying it didn't work. Crafters Companion sends you every plate you need with the Jr now even for 3D folders. You probably should have opened the new manual. lol =)

I stand in the minority of Gemini jr. Experiences , it was not as wonderful as I had hoped so I sold it and bought a Vagabond 2 , Just incase someone wonders . I would have preferred loving it since I lost money on it .

Sorry to hear Tracy. My crafty besties has a Vagabond and loves it. 2 different machines that do almost all the same things. I kept my Big Kick for my large Tim Holtz dies. The Gemini Jr is great for my Foilpress.
